A distinctly funky evocation of Coney Island's history as America's first theme park. The space is limited, but the objects are well chosen, including some brief TV documentaries. Downstairs, the museum offers a traditional "side show," full of self-described "freaks" and other curiosities. As waves of gentrification wash over this beloved landmark, the museum stands out as one of the last bastions of the authentic Coney.

To get the full effect, you should visit on a summer weekend. (It's right across the street from the subway station.) Hours are limited in the off-season. Check for more details.
