Dedicated to SF Fire Fighters in the 1930s by Lily Coit. SF burned 6-8 times before the 1906 fire and firefighters are reverred in this city. The tower is internally adorned by murals supervised by Diego Rivera during the great depression under the Works Project Administration, WPA.. A beautiful example of pictoral San Francisco history with images of common life in a heroic style as interpreted by Rivera. Themes of SF life abound.. One of my all time favorite places to take people to view the bay Area vista as well as a slice of SF/USA history. Should call or google to get visioting times to view the murals close-up. On your way back stop in in North Beach and buy some salami, cheese, bread and wine for a snack at Molinaris deli on Columbus St.
