Probably the very best way to visit Volcano on a budget is to arrive Saturday and shop the farmer's market Sunday morning for food during your stay.

Great buys might include six papayas for a dollar, or a handful of starfruit. Delectable avocados. Theresa's amazing toffee- you are on vacation, right? Try the haupia with lilikoi topping. Ron's kalua pork is great with eggs or inside a corn tortilla - you can buy handmade ones here.

The local jams and honey are a super good take home item. And perhaps the best of all is Lisa's Kau coffee. It tastes like there is chocolate in it - I am not kidding. It is the smoothest, richest coffee I have ever tasted. You'll find her easily - coffee in a shiny blue bag and lots of people crowding her table.

Oh I almost forgot. There is no guarantee who will be vending any particular Sunday, but you can almost always find already prepared food for about $5 a serving. It's ono!
