Sunflower is a perfect spot for a quick and delicious lunch or dinner. They're imperial rolls with vermicelli are amazing. Parking can be a bit tricky, so you're better off hopping on a bus to get down there. It's easy to get there from many bus lines - it's located right on 16th and Valencia.
Sunflower is cheap, beyond yummy and authentic Vietnamese food. The restaurant has two locations - one in the mission on Valencia and one in Potrero Hill. The Potrero Hill outpost is a slightly classier joint, but the food is of the same caliber in both. And that caliber is "awesome." The portions are generous, and one could easily make two meals out of their famous vermicelli bowls (unless one is like me and can't stop eating because it's so delicious).
It was my first night in San Francisco when my friend and I stumbled upon Sunflower. How did we know it was not-to-miss? Well, the line out the door was a clear indicator! The main location is on Valencia, but if you walk around the block to the 16th street entrance where they have a separate room, you can squeeze in at the bar and avoid the lines. The food is delicious and cheap, and the portions are huge! Definitely order to share. The noodle bowls are huge and could feed two people. You'll leave full and still probably have leftovers. Great for impromptu date night or a fun place to meet with friends. Also, servers are friendly and there's a great hustle-bustle feel to it. If you're looking for quiet and calm this is not for you, but it's a must-see-and-do if you want the get a taste of culture and international food in the Mission.
