I'm traveling during the monsoons. But how is monsoon in these places? Does it rain in short bursts allowing travel or should we keep waiting endlessly for rain to stop?

Well how long is a pice of string, when it rains it rains, but so what, its still 30 degrees+, don't wait for the rain to stop, you will never see anything, just be careful if traveling by road when it rains, because its not a little european rain, its big, its mega, its loud and spectacular!
Thailand; in the north and north east not too much rain, central it rain in short bursts , south Thailand, a lot of rain , sometimes many days in a row, and flooding.
That is a very difficult question to answer, every day will be differnt from the next but you should have enough time to keep travelling, you will get short sharp bursts and you will get longer periods of rain, when i lived in the north Thailand it seemed to rain heavier at night but you will also depend on luck as there will be breaks of 4-5 days with no rain.......have fun good luck
In Thailand life never stops even in the rain...so dont worry about the rain... we travel in the rain....!
Usually short heavy burst, with a few exceptions, nothing to worry.
Hi Joanie,

Don't worry about rain. Often it rains in the evenings and if it rains during day-time, it's finished after 30-40 minutes. Just plan your holiday and I'm sure you will be alright.

Hi maybe a bit of rain, not to worry it cools things for a very short bit. Bur look at these weather sites for a better idea :
Thailand:
Wind and waves: ( just change the settings at the top for the cities and areas that you want to see...)
and

Have a safe holiday.
Hi Joanie

Welcome to SE-Asia. About monsoon, depending on the country - east or westside - you can fancy all types of
weather. Monsoon is "basically" short, heavy, local rains -
even a couple of times a day - but still/always very humid
(up to 100 % relative humidity), hot - very hot .... ;-D

If you're not afraid from water - pouring down from "heaven"
com'on enjoy yourself and have fun here.

thailand in august is rainy season. there's lot of rain, but you'll get cheaper price in everything; accommodation, airplane ticket, and more. anyway, if you wanna go to the beach during the rain season, just be careful about the monsoon. have a good trip. :)
I live in Pai. Rain, as they said, there is a LOT of rain. Most of Thailand has public transportation. Not Pai. Here you will need to hoof it, use a motorbike, or a bicycle, or care of course. Cars are not really recommended as we don't have enough road space for any more cars, in the village area. You will probably want to come here however, and as they said, the rain will make it low season. High Season (Thai Holidays) are so crowded, it's best to stay home and wait for low season. Maybe one question you can answer would be regarding your mode of transportation, and areas of travel. As you are traveling to many areas, I would recommend you see Pai, and Baguio in the PI (as well as Davao City). In Vietnam, Nga Trang is wonderful and recommend you connect directy after landing in Saigon, as Saigon is a pit. Rain, rain and more rain. There will be flooding, and even now, BKK is flooded.
sure - its raining... what to say?
i love it... it can rain like you have never seen before and this is exciting. it is just beautiful and thats the tropics.

shure it allows to travel, get a rain coat!

generaly i have to say:

people, dont think and plan too much or too many travel points in a short while. you miss everything!

you never come into that slowed down feeling, you overrun the pretty things by hitting the next target.

like crazy they are traveling cross country... like...

do you look more at the details and nature and do you suck in the atmosphere of the tropics of an place, or you are walking around with the lonely planet in front of your face!

i dont like the idea of all this recommented places. because... there is much more as in one magazine could fit in. in that way... you discover it by your own, what is the real adventure.

p.s. take care that they dont shoot you! - its wild here!!!
Yes, it will be probably raining. Heavy rain for up to 2 hours at a time, depending where you are in Thailand.

But you may get lucky and have some periods of quite bright sunshine.
Rain can be heavy for a hour or so, 1 hour later all is back to normal, freshens the air, nobody bothers about it raining, life keeps going as nothing has happened plenty of plastic macs and umrellas are available,
With or without rain you will enjoy Thailand . Anyway is not the same north /northeast/Bangkok-central--/or south. I wouldnt recommend you to go to the south. For the rest of the areas. . . take an umbrella with you and go ahead !
