Are you a jazz fan with some good tips?

Please give me some inside tips on the most relaxed and enjoyable places to see jazz music in your area. When I travel, the first place I look for is a real informal jazz scene with great players.

Country: United States

Washington, DC is by far one of the best cities for jazz in the nation. The most recognized area to see jazz is U Street. Be careful in the area, it's not the safest place, but some of the best jazz can be found here. I'd suggest going earlier in the evening to Twin's Jazz Club right on U and 13th Streets. It's one of the best known clubs in the city. My other favorite is HR-57. This is a little bit out of the U Street area (it's located at Q and 14th), but it's a safer neighborhood and BYOB.
Try the Seabreeze Jazz Festival in April in Seaside Florida...that is if you like to hear music by the beach.
The Monterey Jazz Festival is a favorite of fans and musicians and is in an extraordinarily beautiful place. The Kuumbwa Jazz Center in nearby Santa Cruz is simply one of the best clubs in the world (according to folks like McCoy Tyner and Branford Marsalis)
Hi...for the San Francisco Bay Area the number one jazz venue is Yoshi's with places in Oakland and San Francisco. I prefer the Oakland location because it's smaller and more intimate. There's also Anna's Lounge in Berkeley and several other little local places all over...The Broadway in Fairfax, Sweetwater in Mill Valley and more.
Here's a good list of clubs in Los Angeles:
