Hi, to respond clearly, i just tell you Yes. you don't have to care about French safety. If you want to go in Paris their is a lot of beautiful place to go. maybe if you take the metro (subway) just take care of your pocket ;-). La france is a beautifu country ( la touraine about 1hours with TGV(faster train) are nice with their castle and Historical places to visit too). I hope you enjoyed this country. Safe trip !
As an American livinf in France for the past 13 years, I would recommend sewing Canadian flag patches to all of your clothing, say "Eh" a lot and pretend you don't know who Obama is. The public stonings, burnings at the stake and beheadings ended many, many years ago, but you never know. The French friendliness could just be a ploy to get Americans to lower their guard so they can tar and feather us in public. ;)

This is all in jest, to illustrate how absurd the idea really is that it would be dangerous for Americans to come to France. It is safer here than in most American cities.

France has the largest American community outside the USA. France is much safer than most American cities. They have a different value and moral system that one may define as more humanistic and less money driven. So I think it would be difficult to get killed over a watch or carjacked here. Now going to Iraq may be alittle difficult at this moment! Have a nice trip!
This question is a little bit funny. So, let's see : who are the humans who are attacked or who have they money stolen ? usually people who are afraid (they attract bandits) or on the contrary people too much cool (who think it's heaven too be in Paris, nothing can happen to them)they don't pay attention at all, showing their money in the aeroport ...etc Japanese persons were often victims of picpockets in the touristic areas and the police told to everybody to pay more attention to their handbag.
So try to be "décontracté" and attentive in the same time.
really now, how can u feel so special as 'american' to ask it so particular? unless u talk so loud on public transport that u borther everyone, prance around in ur american flag T-shirt, nobody will care if ur american or not. dont let ur 1000€ photocamera hang out form ur bag in the metro, dont walk and sing on the outside corners of town rasist songs and im sure u'll do just fine in Paris.....how old are u anyway?
what on earth makes you feel you would be unsafe in France? Are you so violent and badly behaved that you are going to seriously upset the charming and welcoming people who live in this lovely country?
This is a beautiful country with great appeal for all ages and interests. The health care is excellent and I understand the police force is very efficient although I have had no opportunity to experience it in 5 years of living here. Unless there is something very strange about you there is much less danger here than in your own hometown. take courage and go for it!!!
