Best way to Iquitos

What is the best way to get to Iquitos, Peru coming from the North? I will be spending a few days in Quito, and then head south into Peru, hopefully making a stop in Iquitos...any suggestions?

Country: Peru

Hi Sofia: There is no way to get to Iquitos by road. You have the choice between air and water.
As far as I know, there is no direct flight between Tumbes and Iquitos. You’d have to get to Lima and fly Lima/Iquitos (LanPeru)
You can make your way to Pucallpa and then by river (rio Ucayali) to Iquitos. Or from Tarapoto (rio Yurimangas). But it seems that your best bet is directly from Ecuador by way of either rio Putumayo or rio Napo. Frankly, I don’t know how easy this would be. The border used to be part of a long bloody dispute between Peru and Ecuador until just a few years ago. You should be able to get information from the Ecuadorian side. Good Luck.
The best way to get Iquitos is by airplane from Lima, Quito is 14 hours far away from Tumbes the border city in Peru and then you would have to travel 6 hours more by car to Get Chiclayo where there is a way to get Bagua to 5 hours more and then get a boat for a6 hours more to get Iquitos; It is not a safe way so the best way is by airplane.
2 ways only: fly to Lima and then Iquitos or... go to Chiclayo by ground, then Tarapoto and then Yurimaguas. Huallaga River. then by boat 2 1/2 days to get Iquitos. No easier way.
Is that 2 1/2 Days total from Lima to Iquitos? Thanks so much, I want to take the scenic route :)
By plane Quito - Lima - Iquitos
The other way is by bus from Tumbes - Chiclayo - Tarapoto - Yurimaguas and then take a boat Yurimaguas to Iquitos (2 o 3 days by river)

Godd luck
