If you stay at Sukhumvit Soi 19, I recommend you to go to (sub) "Soi Cowboy" of Sukhumvit Soi 21 around 5-10 minutes by walking. the place is behind the Interchange Tower.
Great shopping all over Bangkok, the Emporium is very close for some great shopping. The best part is that you will be by the BTS Skytrain and the Metro Subway so easy to get to most places.
You could try the Chuchuck Weekend Market if your a bargain hunter but go in the morning it could get very hot. Then you can take the Skytrain to MBK heaven for shoppers.

Nightlife is up to your desecration, Soi Cowboy is very good sure or you can take a metered taxi to Patpong too.

Easy and cheap is the Beer garden on Soi 7

Yes, definitely - and then there are taxis and the Sky train.
Soi 19 is actually right in town. Besides, Soi Cowboy, you can also walk to Nana area, full of vibrant nightlife, and along the way to Nana, lots of street shopping if you are looking to buy souvenirs. This is also close to BTS Station, you can take BTS to Prompong to Emporium.
You will be close to the Asoke/Sukhumvit area, along the sukhumvit strech is alot of shopping stalls and large built up malls. You won't be able to miss them, the closest to you might be robinsons department stall. Not to great for shopping but still something, but if you are close to the sky train I would suggest jumping on board and heading down to siam station, or national stadium. There you will find the high end shopping district as well as MBK, so you have the best of shopping in both worlds.

Hope this helps. Also, if you are looking for something closer you have emporium at prom pong station. Also worth checking out, high end expensive shopping though. Good luck.
You are right in the middle of everything: Up-market shopping centres EMPORIUM at PROMPONG BTS Skytrain station and TIME SQUARE across the Asoke intersection and all the street stalls along SUKUMVIT RD. around Soi 15 for cheap attire and all sort of knick-knacks.
For nightlife Soi Cowboy is close and open air beer gardens on Soi 21itself.
Don't change your acco!
If you want to go somewhere else skytrain stations - ASOKE and PROMPONG are closeby, so is subway station SUKUMVIT/ASOKE.
By walk might far, you need to take sky train to Silom or Siam Square for night life. But it is not so crowded.
Yes very convenient area. At the corner of 19/Sukhumvit you'll find the skytrain that can even take you to more shopping malls too far to walk. :-)
