are there any good swimming beaches in san francisco

City: San Francisco

State: California

Country: United States

Hi Jasper,
While you may read more about San Francisco's Ocean Beach (along the Western edge of the city, boardering Golden Gate Park and the Sunset neighborhood), another less-well-known/more secluded option is East Beach (also known as China Beach).

The beach is shielded by the cliffs, has shallow water for swimming (possibly the best place for a beach swim in the City, but be warned the surf can still get strong!), and a great view of the Golden Gate. Life guards are on duty from April to October.

East Beach is located near Pacific Heights, off Seacliff Ave and 28th Ave. (Driving through this fancy neighborhood, look for the small brown signs that say "Public Beach" off El Camino del Mar.) Available from the Muni Bus lines, a good option, as only about 40 parking spaces are available.
Muni #29 - Get off @ Lincoln Ave/Camino del Mar, and 25th Ave - Walk West
Muni #1 - Take to California Ave and 30th Ave - Walk North
(Either stop is about 5 blocks from the beach!)

Happy Swimming!
