Jack's the biggest with daily two buses.
Fineday comes next with one bus.
ThaiVisaService is a very good value trip, use VIP Van.

They all go to Ban Laem and offer hasslefree service.

Avoid EastmeetWest, they still go to PoiPet and it takes ages to come back to Thailand .
Do not use VISA run companies. They are all essentially rackets to siphon money from foreigners. Instead, research on the Internet the best methods to make VISA runs without the use of services. To Vientiane, you can either bus, train or fly to Udon-Thani. From there, it's a short 1 hour van or bus ride to Nong-Kai the Thai border town. And then from there, you can hire a van or tuk-tuk into Vientiane. Be sure to haggle like crazy every step of the way, and even do the walk away approach if necessary along the way. Good luck.
if its just an in and out border run and you dont want to do sight seeing around vientienne i would hop on the overnight bus from Morchit north eastern bus terminal to mukdahan its the 999 v.i.p bus you want.i would say check the times as you dont want to arrive at your destination to much before the border opens to save waiting around,i recommend Mukdahan/Savannaket(laos)less waiting and hassle
Where is your sense of adventure?
You can do this very straight forward activity for less than half the price and have a whole lot of fun and see some of the country and meet loads of people all at the same time. How good is that!

HOWEVER, BE ADVISED
Land entry permit into Thailand is only 15 days without a visa.
If you are seeking a visa from the Thai Embassy in Vientaine it is closed on the weekends.
All visa applications are an overnight deal which means if you arrive on a Friday, you must wait till Monday to collect your passport. Thursday is the busiest day to go and you must go very early in the morning to ensure that you achieve your goal in time.

Your visa into Laos will cost you $30US.
I have done this all before so happy to respond further if you have any other questions.
Have fun.
Hi Peter,
For me it's a long time ago I was in need of visa-runs. Still good memories left of them. There are many companies that help you with visa runs but check out this one

Hi there
If your purpose is to renew your visa, why are you going to Vietnam. Cambodia is cheaper although having said that they all cost 2000 Baht plus depending on who you use.
Have you considered flying out and back into the country then you can get a four week visa, rather than a two week visa that you will get if you go by road. There are many special deals at the moment for flights - check them out.
Use the Jack Golf service which goes to Phnom Penh, they don't go to Laos anymore.

Better still, do it yourself. Find a bargain on Air Asia and fly to Udon Thani, take the airport shuttle bus to the border at Nong Khai, buy a Laos visa at the border and then take a minibus for 100 baht to Vientiane. Go to the Thai embassy, put in the paperwork, pick up the next day. And that's it. Cost you about the same as the Jack Golf run, but you have the choice of when and how to get there and what to do and see. Or take the bus or train, although sometimes the plane is cheaper than the First Class sleeper.

There are plenty of hotels near to the Embassy in Vientiane or there are plenty more in the city centre.

On the way back, if you're stuck in Udon Thani, near to the bus station, across the road, going towards the city centre is a cheapie hotel, which is comfy, no signs in English though and can't remember the name.
Hi
You can use a service provided by a Dutch guy. Here is the webpage. Last I went with him he charged 1900 thb.

Good luck.
