New Years New Years Eve 2011 - Sahara Desert

Dec 29th Marrakech - Ouarzazate

Morning pick up from your Riad/Hotel in Marrakech and travel through the High Atlas Mountains via the Ticha Pass (2260 m), the highest road pass in Morocco. Offering panoramic views of the snow capped High Atlas Mountains and their magnificent landscapes. Visit of the extraordinary sight of the Atlas Mountains Kasbah Telouet, a rustic town that was once a principal stop on the main caravan route to Mali. Here we visit an amazing relic of Moroccan history, the crumbling Kasbah that was once the palatial residence of extremely powerful Glaoui family. Then continue your trip to another perhaps the most impressive Kasbah of Morocco Ait Ben Haddou. Built on a hilltop, Ait ben Haddou has been featured in many movies such as the Lawrence of Arabia or Gladiator. The views from the upper heights of the Kasbah are awe inspiring and worth the required climb through winding, narrow streets.


30th Dec Ouarzazate – M’hamid
Today in the morning depart Ouarzazate and travel via the scenic Draa Valley. Lined by many palm grove and Sub Saharan Berber villages is one of the biggest valleys of Morocco. Make a lunch stop in Zagora. Then continue towards Tamegroute to visit the underground Kasbah and Koran library. Your trip then continues towards M’hamid where the Draa valley ends the vast Sahara desert starts. Spend the night in M’hamid or by Erg Lihoudi in Nomad tent.


31s dec M’hamid – Erg Chigaga
Today experience the camel ride. Saddle your camels and follow your guide into the desert on the back of your camel. Ride for approximately 2 hours a unique experience. Later meet your driver who will carry you even father into the Sahara wilderness desert in the 4x4 wheel drive. . Arrive to the sand dunes of Erg Chigaga, magnificent sand dunes spreading over 40 kms and reaching up to 300m.

1st Dec Erg Chegaga – Marrakech
After breakfast and beautiful sunrise start heading back to Marrakech. Travel through the sand dunes in your 4x4 wheel drive. Your driver’s skills will carry over the sand dunes the old road of rally Paris – Dakar. Pass the imaginary lake of Iriquii to Forum Zquid. There get back onto the main road and continue towards Taznakcht. There view how local Berber carpets are made. Expected arrival to Marrakech at 7pm

Sand Dune Tours Sand dunes tour to Erg Chebbi

Day 1 Marrakech → Rose Valley
Pick up from your Hotel in Marrakech in the morning and transfer to the verdant oasis of Dades Gorge via the High Atlas Tizi-n-Tichka mountain pass and the World Heritage Site of Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, one of Morocco’s most spectacular ksour (dwellings) that once guarded the lucrative caravan route through the Atlas mountains. Continue through Ouarzazate and Kelaa Mgouna (Rose Valley) and leave the main route at Boumalne Dades. Drive along this oasis valley gorge of the River Dades past ruined hilltop Kasbahs, valley-floor gardens and the strange rock formations of the Tamnalt Hills. Dinner, Hotel


Day 2 Dades Valley → Merzouga
Transfer from Dades Gorge to Merzouga via the Todra Gorge (the highest oasis valley gorge in Morocco). Arrive in the desert where your guide and camels will be waiting to carry you across the sandy dunes of the Moroccan Sahara. Camel trek as the sun set across a desert landscape, for approximately 2 hrs to reach your desert camp and home for the night: a traditional nomad tent. At your desert shelter, your camels are hobbled and mint tea is served. A simple meal of tagine is freshly prepared for you by your guide. Dinner ,overnight in a Berber tent


Day 3 Merzouga → Marrakech
Rise early to greet the new day and, after mint tea and breakfast, return across the desert on your camels to shower and depart. Transfer direct from Merzouga to Marrakech through the scenic Draa valley.

Desert Tours Sahara Desert Tour to Erg Chigaga

Day 1 Marrakech → Ait Benhaddou→ Erg Lihoudi
Morning pick up from your Riad/Hotel in Marrakech and travel through the High Atlas Mountains via the Ticha Pass (2260 m), the highest road pass in Morocco. Offering panoramic views of the High Atlas Mountains and their magnificent landscapes, we visit several Kasbah along the way - including Tamnougalte and Ait Benhaddou. The Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou is a 16th century UNESCO site - one of the best preserved and most spectacular Kasbah in Morocco. Scenes from the blockbuster hit movie of 2000 - Gladiator - were filmed in Ait Benhaddou. The trip continues through the palm lined Draa river valley. Arrive in Erg Lihoudi near M'hamid.
Dinner, Tents.

Day 2 Erg Lihoudi → M hamid→ Erg Chegaga
In the morning, say farewell to Erg Lihoudi on the backs of saddled camels and enter the Sahara desert. A three hour ride followed by a break for lunch in M'hamid. Travel from M'hamid by 4x4 vehicle through the beautiful desert landscape. Reach the sand dunes of Chegaga - the largest group of dunes in the region reaching a height of 300 m and a span of 40 km. Dinner with entertainment. Camp in Nomad Tents

Day 3 Erg Chegaga →Marrakech
Breakfast then departure in 4x4 vehicles via the ld Paris-Dakar road to Foum Zguid, crossing Lake Iriqui. Lunch in Taznakht. Arrival in Marrakech about 6:30 PM.

Day 1 M'Hamid →Race Nkhal →Sidi Naji (a marabout)

You leave at 8 am M'Hamid towards the Erg Ezzahar. After lunch Race Nkhal, you take your walk to the dunes and Sidi Naji said the place of a marabout. The camp is set for the night. Dinner, evening around the fire and overnight in tents.



Day 2 Sidi Naji →Hamada →Erg Ezzahar (Dunes screaming)

You cross a small Hamada (desert rock) and arrive in a magnificent dune landscape. In late afternoon, you reach Erg Ezzahar or screaming Dunes. The decor is sumptuous. You are at the top of the highest dune to admire the sunset.
Bivouac in this beautiful place, tagine, evening by the fire, night in tents.

Day 3 Erg Ezzahar (Dunes screaming) → Lhdibate →Erg Smar

Leaving the dunes screaming for Ldhibate. The camp is located in the Erg Smar. The cook prepares the bread and baked in the sand, traditional way. Couscous and night under the starry sky.


Day 4 Erg Smar →Bougarn

You leave the Erg Smar for Bougarn where the last camp is set. Last evening of the thousands of stars.


Day 5 Bougarn→Lbour →M'Hamid

From Bougarn, you return back to M'Hamid with a lunch break at Lbour.

Farewell to the desert and return to M'Hamid to 6pm

Hiking & Walking Hiking Toubkal - The highest mountain of Morocco

Day 1 Marrakech → Asni Imioughlad → Tacht 2200 m →Tiziane
Depart early in the morning from Marrakech to the village of Imioughlad (1400m), where we collect our equipment and mules. We cross the village of Imioughlad and continue to the Tacht Pass (2200 m) where we can pause to enjoy the views of the nearby valleys. After Tacht Pass, we descend to the village of Tiziane and spend the nigh 4 ½ hour walking/ vertical gain of 600m , descend of 300 m


Day 2 Tiziane →col Teouti (24000m) → Tizgui (2 250m)
Rising early in the morning, we leave Tiziane and begin our climb towards the Teouti Pass through a forest of green thuriferous. After crossing Teouti Pass, we descend to the picturesque milling village of Tizqui.
6 hours of walking / vertical gain 800m / descend of 400m


Day 3 Tizqui →Tougdalt (2700m) → Tamsoult (2250m)
Today we pass through the wild landscapes of Toubkal. Starting on an easy path to the plate of Tazaghart, we meet the local Berber herds and shepherds. The long descent (app. 2 hours) through the Thuya forest is an Eden of exotic trees - such as juniper and cypress. Upon entering we encounter the gorgeous valley of Toubkal - a landscape to be appreciated with a relaxing meal and a rest to revive from the walk. We continue ( 2 hours) along the rise to the point of Tamsoult (2250 m).
6 hours of walking / vertical gain of 600m and descend of 900m




Day 4 Aziz Tamsoult (2250m) → Aguelzim (3400m)
Through the next wild landscape we will advance very gradually - in the direction of the collar of Tzikkert with a bend towards the refuge of Lepiney (a small valley and a source of water - Toumllilte). We then commence our ascent to the peak of Aquelzim (3450 m), which involves a multitude of traversed turns. This type of rise enables us to reach the peak with less physical stress. At the halt rest we admire the sight of the top of Toubkal, "the Iron Triangle". Long descent towards the camp at Toubkal.
6 ½ hours of walking/ vertical gain of 1.200m and descend of 300m


Day 5 Toubkal Summit → Imlil (1750 m)
We wake at 4:30 AM for an early departure to avoid the heat of the rising sun. Depending on the time of year and the conditions on the mountain, we may climb in snow using cramps and special gear - but technical difficulty is minimal. Three hours average to the summit. The efforts of the climb are rewarded by the satisfaction of having climbed 4167 meters and, of course, the spectacular view. An awesome moment never to be forgotten. Descent is via another path (Ikhibi) along which we will see the remnants of an airplane which crashed twenty years ago. Return to base camp and continue to Imlil. There we shall stop to pay homage to the famous healer of Sidi Chemharouch, a local saint known to cure disease. A great number of people come to consult this living saint. Late in the afternoon, we will arrive in Imlil and set camp.
7.5 hours walking/ vertical gain of 1000m and descend of 2500m


Day 6 Imlil →Marrakech
Depart in the morning to Marrakech. Estimated arrival by 2 PM.

Biking Upper Atlas Biking Tour

225 km track in the upper atlas, divided in 5 stages, each one between 35 and 60 km. 3 nights in a tent, one night in a resting-place. Saturday afternoon, fabulous downhill for more than 40 km long, then transfer to marrakech, and last night in our ****hotel.
