The Village Legend still lives… In 1615 the so-called Gradićan or Uskok war broke out. Dvigrad was ravaged and taken over by invading troops. As a result, in the 16th century, the surrounding villages including Pilkovići, Brajkovići and Kurili were established consisting of the displaced citizens of Dvigrad. During the reign of Napoleon in the 18th century, the inhabitants, struck by their losses in war and epidemic, abandoned their homes and built new ones in the surroundings and ‘stancijas’ ( small farm-like settlements). Our village was one of the army bases of the French troops, which were controlling its boarders. Old stone walls with carved historical inscriptions and dates can still be seen today. Allow us to introduce ourselves: Pilkovići is a small village, an oasis of tranquillity and greenery located only 12km from the tourist town of Rovinj. In the village, we remodelled an old family home into this beautiful family hotel, the ‘Dva Baladura’. Romuald’s cave lies on the slope of the Lim channel, above Lim Gradina. The high rocks at the end of the channel are perfect for those who enjoy in recreational climbing. For those who prefer to visit beauty underground, we suggest the breathtaking cave Baradine, Nova Vas. A cave of great beauty where you can see the endemic species Proteus (newt), miniature transparent crabs and insects as well as the newly opened cave ‘Feštinsko Kraljevstvo’ in Feštini not far from the town Žminj.
