WE WILL LEAVE HATO VERDE TO MULALÓ TOWN WITH SOME LITTLE TOWNS ON THE WAY AND A LOT OF NICE NATURE TO SEE. THEN WE WILL DRIVE YOU UP TO ABOUT 4500 METERS ABOVE SEA LEAVEL, TO REACH THE SOUTH FACE COTOPAXI REFUGE WHERE YOUR COTOPAXI DOWNHILL BIKE TOUR WILL START.
FROM HERE, ENJOY GREAT VIEWS OF SURROUNDING MOUNTAINS INCLUDING ANTISANA, CHIMBORAZO, AND ILLINIZAS. FIRST, A GREAT DOWNHILL RIDE THAT BRINGS YOU DOWN TO 3200 METERS ABOVE SEA LEVEL AND THEN YOU RIDE ON THE ECUADORIAN HIGH PLAINS. THEN WE CONTINUE RIDING THROUGH THE AREA AND VISIT THE BIG ROCK CHILINTOSA THAT CAME OUT OF THE COTOPAXI VOLCANO ON ITS LAST ERUPTION.
Zumbahua

High in the Andes is Zumbahua communitie. There is a small and unspoiled market and perfect for people, who like to experience a genuine Indian market. Indigenous women still come with their llamas to town to help to carry with their purchases later on. As the town is only 20 minutes from Quilotoa Crater Lake, it is a good idea to combine both visits.
Train from Quito to Boliche
Price:
Early morning departure to Tambillo train station. The train leaves at 8:00 a.m. to the Cotopaxi National Park Cotopaxi - Boliche Station. During the journey you will enjoy the fabulous Sierra landscapes and some small stops the train makes. Around 11:30 you arrive at the Boliche Station. Animals such as llamas, rabbits, deer, different types of birds as well as different types of pines, mushrooms, “chuquiraguas”, etc. are found in the Cotopaxi National Park. If the sky is clear, you will be able to admire the impressive Cotopaxi volcano (19.600 ft. above sea level).
Later on, at the park we visit the interpretation center and Limpiopungo Lake drive up to 15000 ft. and trek up to Padre Rivas mountain climbing refuge (1 hour ½). Stop for box lunch, walk to the glaciers.
Saquisili Indian Market

On Thursdays the region’s largest Indian market takes place. It takes five plazas. Each plaza has its own special name, according to local products. Each plaza offers food, clothing and endless of colorful products. Early in the morning is the animal market, just outside of town, and the product market during the whole day in the center of town.
A morning visit by vehicle to the nearby rural Saquisili Indian market is perfect for Hato Verde guests, you can amble through the squares and streets buying local crafts or a traditional poncho or simply watching the locals trading on this, the most important market day. Men sit behind old sewing machines putting the collars on new ponchos or behind stone wheels grinding knives for people; ladies pass through the market selling a multitude of wares…
