Drive around 10km to the Plain of Jars, the archaeological spectacle of giant stone jars, which dates back at least 2,000 years. It is such a mystery, the Plain of Jars, a plateau of 50 km wide scattered with over 300 stone jars. The 2,000 year-old jars range in size from 1 to 2.5 meters height, and are thought to have been used as funeral urns.

Show Me Around Vientiane City Tour by Laos Heritage Tour

Pick-up at your hotel and we start to explore Vientiane, the city of the moon - an ancient city, situated on the bend of the left bank of Mekong. It is the largest city and the capital of Laos. Embark on a sightseeing tour of the city's major historic sites including religious museums of Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple that survived from the Siamese war in 1828 with its cloister containing more than 8,000 Buddha statues; Wat Ho Prakeo, the former home temple of the Emerald Buddha statue or Pra Keo, but today it contains a collection of Buddha statues, antiques and all artifacts found in and around Vientiane; That Luang Stupa, the single most important monument in Laos, which was built to cover the original smaller stupa, containing a piece of the chest bone of Buddha; Patouxay (Lao Arc de Triomphe), built quite recently in commemoration of those who died during the wars in the past and it is today the landmark of Vientiane.

Stop to visit Mrs Carol Cassidy's weaving studio, an American who arrived in Vientiane in 1989 as part of a United Nations project to promote traditional weaving. Mrs Carol remained in Laos and formed the Lao Textiles Studio that today employs over 40 weavers creating natural dyed, woven silk pieces reflecting traditional Lao design reinterpreted. Her textiles mix tapestry, brocade and ikat techniques at NA DAO restaurant (the meaning is subject to her availability then).
