Wildlife Tours
     width= Sod the Big 5

Kenya, and Africa in general, has soooo much more to offer than the "Big 5" (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Black Rhino, Buffalo). If that's all your guide is interested in showing you, you're not getting your money's worth.
From the small 5 (Antlion, Leopard Tortoise, Elephant Shrew, Rhino Beetle, Buffalo Weaver) to the adorable, Spring Hares (like a small kangaroo) that hop around the plains at night, to the beautiful sunsets and white sandy beaches, East and Southern Africa are a hive of beauty and activity.

My motto: De big man say, everyting unda control. De small man say no, someting should be don.
About me: I'm a 24 year old Kenyan, having been born and raised in Nairobi as part of the 4th generation of my family living in Kenya. I've always loved the wildlife and scenery in Kenya, and it is my aim and desire to do my best to protect it and educate everyone I meet here about its value.
I love to travel. I enjoy hosting guests. There is so much of my own country and continent I have yet to see, do and learn. I never want to stop learning or traveling.
I have my Kenya Professional Safari Guides "Bronze Level" qualification, as well as the Level 1 qualification for the Field Guides Association of Southern Africa, and a Level II qualification for wildlife tracks and signs in Southern Africa. I also have an associates degree in engineering drafting from a small private Christian University in Longview, Texas. Hopefully, that list will get longer and longer as time passes, and as money allows.
Welcome to Kenya! And I hope I can help you find what you're looking for here.

I wish "To explore the unknown and the familiar, distant and near, and to record in details with the eyes of a child, any beauty, horror, irony, traces of utopia or Hell.”

It is my belief that the whole point of this website is to show people from other countries how we, as locals live, and where we go. So, please keep in mind, that what I've listed below are not necessarily services that I offer. This is my own personal page, not the page of the company I work for. The items listed below are most likely things that are popular with locals and/or tourists. They are things that I enjoy doing, as a local and things that are regulars with tourists to Kenya. I've also tried to incorporate things that are not regulars with tourists. Things that locals do or places they go, that are not on the tourist circuit. Because that's the whole point of the site, as I understand it.

Shopping Tours
     width= Shopping Advice for Kenya

Tourists to Kenya enjoy a great selection of areas to do shopping for souvenirs, curios, and clothes.
However, many tourists to Kenya are, unfortunately, not educated on what items are OK to buy, and what items should be avoided.
If you're interested in being a responsible tourist, this list is for you.
AVOID:
- All animal products. This includes, ivory, shells, elephant hair bracelets, skins, antelope horns, skulls, etc. Trade in these items is illegal, but not completely uncommon.
- Any item with shells attached. I realize little cowrie shells attached to your clothes, jewelry and shoes is fashionable, but your fashion is killing our coral reefs. Even shells that wash up on the beach have a place in the ecosystem, and should be left to carry out that position.
- Endangered plant products. Everyone makes a big deal out of selling real ebony carvings. Personally, I would rather buy fake ebony than the real stuff. Being a very hard wood, it takes many many years to grow big enough to be cut for carving. It is not a common, widespread tree in Kenya, and its over-use for carving purposes is quickly making it critically endangered.

-Try to buy from sources that support communities or street children. A great shop, in the middle of Westlands, is the Undungu Shop. The proceeds go toward street children in Nairob. The prices are fixed, so there's no stress with bargaining (although, I personally love bargaining).

Kenya is the home to the famous Safari Rally, which used to be run across East Africa, covering thousands of miles from Dar-es-salaam (Tanzania), to Kampala (Uganda), to Nairobi. It was a world class event, attracting all the biggest international teams and driver, touting itself as the toughest competition for man and machine. Today, the Kenya National Rally championship is flourishing. Rallies are held around once a month. And a Classic East African Safari Rally, a bi-annual event, continues to attract rallying legends like Stig Blomqvist and Bjorn Waldegaard. Only vehicles built before 1973 are allowed to compete, so spectators will get the full experience of the growl of a Ford Escort MKI or the legendary Datsun 240Z.
