UJUNG KULON DIVE TRIP
DIVE TRIP IN THE SUNDA STRAITS
Day 1
After work, depart Jakarta for Anyer an approximate drive time of 2 hours from the Jakarta. On arrival you can settle into your air conditioned cabins then have a pre trip briefing and safety briefing before departing for the Peucang in the Ujung Kulon National Park, approx 5 hours steam.
Day 2
This natural anchorage in the Paniatan Straits is an isolated wilderness of virgin rainforest, wild animals, and pristine reefs.
Some of the more notable dive sites include:
Tanjung Layar: Jutting out into the Indian Ocean, this rocky outcrop attracts a large array of both fish and coral life.
Paniatan Straits: This drift dive through the straits off the tip of Puecang Island takes you through a spectacular region of underwater canyons which are oases of marine life. Dominated by soft corals this is a great dive.
Cibom Pinnacle: This Volcanic pinnacles come out of about 18 meters of water are covered in spectacular soft corals and shallow caves that you swim through make is a exciting dive rich in life.
Karang Jajar: These deep water pinnacles at the bottom of Paniatan Island magnet for pelagic species it is common to find Schools of White Tip Reef Sharks, large Travally and Dog Tooth Mackerel.
Night Dive Puecang Island: This shallow dive on the hard coral fringing reef is surprising for the wealth of marine life you can find from giant moray eels to large groupers and lobsters.
Day 3
Continue diving around the Peucang Area. If you want a break from diving we can organize an optional trek through the Virgin Rainforests of Ujung Kulon National Park where you have a good chance spotting some of the unique wildlife of Java such as Banteng Cattle, Java Gibbons, Wild Deer and Pigs, etc. By Mid afternoon we will be diving off Paniatan Island with a night dive on the inside of Panaitan.
After our night dive we will steam overnight to Krakatau (about 4 hours).
Day 4
Dive around Krakatau Volcano: Among the better
known dive sites here are:
Karang Serang: a set of volcanic pinnacles jutting out of the sea on the edge on the old undersea caldera. This site features a wall which starts at 20m and drops down to approximately 80m.
The Lava Flows: These recent lava flows are interesting in so much as they formed during the late 90’s when the volcano last erupted. The harsh barren slopes where hot lava froze in contact with the sea, drop down to 40m +. Life is just beginning to re-colonize these rocky seascapes. At the end of the dive we finish in about 5 to12 meters of water on an older established hard coral reef.
Pulau Rakata Reef: This ancient reef with amazing coral gardens slopes down to about 12 meters before plunging down in a coral wall to 30+ meters. Look out for the lava caves with small opening that hide huge caverns and are home to many large fish such as snappers and groupers. This makes a great night dive as well.
Pulau Rakata Walls: These walls drop straight from the shore line down to 80 to 100m. It is amazing to be at 30meters and look up and see the jungle overhanging you.
After the last dive you may have the option to climb Krakatau Volcano if safety conditions permit or get ready to sail back to Tanjung Lesung or Anyer.
Price:
Individually: Diver USD $1000
