Age: 50 - 54

My Website: http://users.iafrica.com/r/ro/robair/tours.htm
I’ve traveled to: New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Italy, France, Isreal, Argentina, Czech Republic, Austria, Dubai, Switzerland, Mozambique, USA, UK
My motto: The more I watch TV the happier I am living where I live.
About me: I primarily host private tours of two guests so I don’t mix groups, as this would defeat the entire object of my touring style, which is both private and customized. I only operate air-conditioned vehicles, a luxury 4X4 and a VW minibus that are certified and licensed by the Public road transportation authorities. I know this all sounds like a lot of technical jargon, but it simply means that my vehicles have proof of third party liability insurance, are roadworthy, and are driven by professional drivers permit holders. In other words, “You are covered!” The vast majority of my touring is with the Cape Grace, whom I have been involved with as a tour operator for 7 years, hosting their special request, private and non-scheduled tours. My interests are in Wine, Cuisine, Political and Social History, Birding and Anthropology. I am also somewhat interested in Botany and Geology but would certainly not call myself an academic in these fields and when my energy levels allow, I love hiking in the bush and mountains.

Cuisine and wine tours

My passion for wine goes back to the early 1980’s when I began drinking Italian white wines - when they were cheaper than local wine! I then started assisting in reducing the vast lake of wine that I had heard was sloshing about in the Cape and have been drinking it ever since. Over the years, I have been through every wine region in the Cape and some in Tuscany, Bardolino, Austria, New Zealand Czech Republic and South America, visited many wineries, tasted almost everything that was on offer, built up my own wine cellar, have read extensively on the subject, attended formal and informal tastings, auctions, launches, festivals and promotions. I have completed the Cape Wine Academy Certificate and am currently doing the tasting education in preparation for my International Diploma. After the 2007 vintage I will have produced the 6th vintage under my own labels "Thirteen 2003","Ca.4121 2004",”Ca.4121 Viognier 2005" being some of these releases. I am not a wine snob, occasionally drink a little too much, certainly do not pretend to know everything and do not consider myself an expert. I am constantly learning about, love and enjoy all types and styles of wine, and I enjoy sharing my little bit of knowledge and our South African wines with anyone who is interested. "I have travelled to the 4 corners of the wine world and found no corners."
