Macaw Mountain Bird Park & Nature Reserve

It offers a first class experience in an unspoiled part of the world. Here you learn about and interact with the intelligent, colorful birds of Central America. It is only about 2 kilometers from Copán. The birds here were rescued or donated by individuals concerned for their condition or unable to care for them in the long-term.

Museum of Anthropology and History - San Pedro Sula
Middle Eastern migrants to Latin America traveled predominantly from the eastern Mediterranean region variously known as the Arab East, the Levant, or the Mashreq. Part of the Ottoman Empire until the early twentieth century, this area includes modern Lebanon, Syria, Israel, and Palestine. Considerable migrant populations have also come from Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq.
They traveled with Turkish passport, therefore in some countries including Honduras they were know as 'Turcos'
The Museum of Anthropology and History in San Pedro Sula has a nice photo gallery of those early immigrants, as well as one of the most extensive collection of Lenca an other cultures' pottery artifacts and sculptures from pre-Columbian times way before Copan's Mayas glorious times.
If you travel to San Pedro Sula, Honduras don't forget to visit the Museum, open daily from 10am to 5pm (except on Tuesdays).
The Museo de Antropología e Historia is licensed by the Honduran Institute of Anthropology and History to house archaeological and historical collections, which by law belong to the people of Honduras. The ground floor of the museum is devoted to the history of Honduras, and San Pedro Sula in particular. The upper floor exhibits are about the prehistory of the valley where San Pedro is located. The Museum has a research library with information related to the history of Honduras.
Copan Coffee Tour
We invite you to learn more about shade grown coffee, the traditional way of growing coffee beans, in an interactive and enchanting way. After a short trip from Copán Ruins, the Finca Santa Isabel offers this once in a lifetime “hands on” experience. Here you will learn all about shade grown coffee, beginning with the plant nursery where young coffee plants are grown and as we continue our hike up the mountains through the exuberant green plantation under magnificent trees, we will show you the harvesting and finally the processing of this bean.
Conventional, "modern" coffee plantations are replacing wildlife habitat, and the population of songbirds across North and South America is in significant decline. "Shade grown" coffee, the traditional method of coffee farming, offers a promising alternative. Benefits of this alternative way of growing coffee beans are among others: the better taste due to the natural sugar that increases its flavor, it is healthier as it is more often organically grown, it helps in protecting the environment as less or no chemical fertilizers are needed, it provides bird habitat and greater biodiversity and helps to sustain rainforests.
Traditionally, all coffee was shade grown. Many growers cut their shade trees and switched to the new varieties developed in the seventies. Unfortunately, this new varieties came with an additional cost: soil erosion, water runoff and soil depletion caused producers to clear vast tracts of rainforest for new soil to plant, and it became apparent that this new method of growing coffee was unsustainable. That is why the traditional way of growing beans that can be observed at the Finca Santa Isabel has been reinforced and clear land has been transformed into shade grown coffee plantations. As shade coffee farms support over 150 species of birds you will also have the opportunity to watch birds and to take amazing jungle photos as you hike the different trails. During our lunch break, you will have the opportunity to enjoy both the typical Honduran food and this peaceful place. Meals included: Lunch
Copan Archeological Tour
Located in the jungles of north-eastern Honduras are some of the oldest and most well preserved Ruins of the Maya Empire. Las Ruinas de Copan (The Ruins of Copan) should be on every visitor's “Must See” list.
Mist-shrouded valleys are home to remote, native villages populated by some of the last remaining indian populations of this Central American area. An incredible array of unique flora & fauna thrive in the dense tropical jungles and Honduras offers a rare opportunity to explore these remote wilderness areas and experience a country that has changed little over the centuries.
Copan has been the focus of the most continuous sustained investigation in all the Maya World. As a result, the most amazing mysteries about the Maya Civilization ever unraveled have been discovered here. You will find remarkable temples and pyramids, giant stelae with carved glyphs representing a complex system of writing, including references to astronomer–priests who tracked planets and could accurately predict both solar and lunar eclipses.
Museums in Copan, Honduras
After one hour at the Maya Sculpture Museum, one of the best in the whole Maya World. Take some time to visit the Archeology Museum in front of the central park, with samples of pottery and sculpture, as well as some burials and tombs with bones and teeth showing jade incrustations. Finally relax at the Casa Kinich Museum originally planned as a children museum, but certainly with important information about the daily life of the Maya you don't want to miss.
