Mezquita Ibrahim Ibin Abdul Aziz Al-Ibrahim, Caracas
3 Recommendations: 3 Favorable,
The high, styled, and white minaret is visible against the green mountain background once you get beyond Parque Central in the Autopista Francisco Fajardo. While there is a Muslim population of about 65.000, this is South America's biggest Mosque. It is open for non Muslim visitors on Sunday afternoons from 4:30 to 5:30. During the visit, women are invited to put some modern versions of a burkha to get in and are assisted by a female guardian, while men are guided into the main platform of worship and are taught about Mahoma and Muslim teachings.

Parque Nacional El Ávila
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
The best place for hiking close to Caracas is El Avila National Park, a mountain range that separates the city from the Caribbean coast. Escorted by a professional guide, hike up to the summit of El Avila Peak at 7,135 feet passing by the Hotel Humboldt. Have lunch in one of the gourmet restaurants of the scenic agricultural hamlet of Galipan and return to the city on the recently reopened cable car. Forest and sub paramo landscapes are traversed on the way to Oriental Peak (8,530 feet) and Naiguata Peak, the highest of this range at 9,071 feet. Resolved souls are rewarded with incredible views of both the city and the coast. A little bit farther from Caracas, the German founded village of Colonia Tovar is the base to hike through bamboos and orchid-full cloud forest to Codazzi Peak (7,956 feet (More info, please visit http://www.lostworldadventures.com/activities/hiking/venezuelahiking/index.htm)

Catedral de Caracas
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
Catedral de Caracas, just opposite the Plaza Bolívar on the Eastern side and next to the Museo Sacro. Plaza Bolívar is where the Venezuelan Independence began on the 19th of April 1810, when the Venezuelan Mantuanos, descendents of Spanish colonizers, stopped the Governor of the Province of Caracas, appointed by the Spanish Crown, on his way to the Cathedral. His baton of command was taken from him and he was placed under house arrest in what is today La Casa Amarilla, the Popular Ministery of Foreign Affairs. Be careful in this area as it is downtown Caracas and it is not all together considered safe. I wouldn't recommend going there alone. Travel safe. Thomas Caracas thberry@arekaytours.com
