Capitola State Beach, Capitola, CA

2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,

First, all of Santa Cruz Beaches have surfing. Capitola Beach, in SC county, is fun for surfing, shopping, dining on the shore, and you can rent little paddle boats. It's a very attractive village. Enjoy the Begonia Festival and Art & Wine Festival. Enjoy the night clubs and cute intimate hotels. Watch out for the meters though - the cops are relentless. Eat at the Shadow Brook restaurant - it's really one of a kind, trust me.

Oracle Arena & Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum

1 Recommendations: 1 Favorable,

Solid place for a concert. I've seen Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, and Billy Joel here. Good floor seating and there isn't a bad seat in the house. It is located right next to the Golden State Warriors arena. Parking is easy, but expensive. You can take Bart from SF for around $7 round trip.

Butano State Park

1 Recommendations: 1 Favorable,

Just down the coast from San Francisco, near the small town of Pescadero off Hwy 1, you can visit Butano State Park, and disappear into a valley of ferns and lush canopy, with a river trickling through the foothills for miles. (A 13 mile trail loop, if memory serves). Intimate campgrounds, available Spring and Summer, offers a wonderful "hidden" getaway. A Bay Area Find!

sonja's kitchen

1 Recommendations: 1 Favorable,

This is a small almost hidden place, that was once a gas station many years ago. It will look empty if no cars in driveway. They have many different steak sandwiches and even a great Veg. sandwich, always made when ordered. The only sides are chips and drinks. There are seats outside, no inside seating. It is right near San Jose State University at 8th and Williams. The hours are not the best 11AM-5PM and not open Sat or Sun.. But if you want a great sandwich it is worth stopping. One last thing they only take cash.

Vive Sol Restaurant

1 Recommendations: 1 Favorable,

Hidden away from the beaten path (i.e. Castro St.) this Mexican restaurant offers regional cooking with surprising quality and originality and a cosy atmosphere. Can get busy on Friday nights but otherwise it's fairly easy to get a table. Has an outside seating area and tiki bar for the summer nights.

Santana Row

1 Recommendations: 1 Favorable,

Whether or not you're a member of the fast paced, jet-setting Silicon Valley crowd, Santana Row is the perfect spot to enjoy a day of outdoor shopping under the palms and an evening of superb dining and nightlife. Relax at one of its many eateries catering to discriminating tastebuds outdoors while people watching. With iconic shops like Gucci, Hlaska and Feragamo tucked between both local boutiques and mainstream favorites, it's a shoppers' paradise and offers something for everyone. Grab a French pastry or cool frozen yogurt and watch the kids entertain themselves on a life-sized chess board. After a busy day shopping under the hot San Jose sun, nothing quenches the thirst quite like a chilled glass of Pinot Grigio courtesy of one of the row's several wine merchants. Grab tickets for an evening movie at CineArts6 or live up the night at the tequila bar under the stars. If you're got the cash to spare, you might consider purchasing one of the exquisite loft condo's above the shops so you can enjoy this spectacle day after day. If not, enjoy a few hours with a little cash for food and beverage and make sure you bring your sunglasses to people watch the day away.

Cook House

1 Recommendations: 1 Favorable,

Tiny place located on the corner of a strip mall. Exposed grill to a long counter, limited seating, this restaurant slings some of the best hash-browns and custom-cooked eggs, ever, for your breakfast. Everything made right there in front of you, everything fresh! (If you can get there for lunch, try the Bacon-Avocado-Lettuce sandwich! -- The Cook House closes after lunch.) On the weekends, you'll need to get there early to get immediate seating. Otherwise, it's going to be a bit of a delay - but bring the newspaper and chill while you wait for Carol to call your name. It's well worth your time! If they're not too crushed, she'll even bring you some fresh-brewed coffee to help you keep your happy thoughts a perc'ing... Portions are very generous - omelets are just intimidating. There's a solid variety of dishes to choose from so everyone in your group should be happy be they carnivore or herbivore. The service is awesome and the atmosphere is homey - comfortable. The cost is quite reasonable considering both the quantity and quality of the food. It's not one of those fancy places where you smother everything in some sort of sauce - it's just good, down-home griddle cooking. (Oh, yeah -- the pancakes absolutely rock!)

Jeffrey's Hamburgers

1 Recommendations: 1 Favorable,

I live in a town with a dozen hamburger joints, not to mention a plethera of restaurants for sushi or a burritos. (No good chinese food in my zip code - have to go 2 exits down the freeway - but that's another review). For all the choices, when my family just wants simple and good food, we always say the same thing: "Let's go to Jeffrey's". Great burgers, fries, and shakes. My wife loves their big salads when she wants to go light. My daughter loves their fish-n-chips. My son learned to love a patty-melt here. A generous menu to choose from. Be sure to dip your french fries in your milkshake. And enjoy this old school burger joint!

Duarte's Tavern

1 Recommendations: 1 Favorable,

We are talking World-Famous Crab Cioppino, just down the coast from San Francisco, in the sleepy little town of Pescadero. Start with a bowl of soup, to take the coastal chill off. (I highly reccomend 1/2 Artichoke, 1/2 Green Chile) Then roll up your sleeves for a gut busting portion of Cioppino. Everything you could want from the sea: A Big DungenessCrab, Big Shrimp, Mussels, Clams, Cod, a delicious tomato base. Great crusty bread to sop up the remains. They bring you a hot towel to clean yourself up. (You'll need it!) Don't forget to save room for pie. (Yes, you may feel stuffed, but the pie is a fitting end to a perfect meal. You've come this far, so don't whimp out on desert...) You may be full for days to come. But trust me , you won't regret, nor soon forget, this meal. Duarte's is a Northern California treasure.
