Farang
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
The Farang restuarant in Cherng Thalay, offers the tourist and local resident, the good taste of both Thai and western food. They have thai food, pizzas, spagehetti and steaks on their menu. They have three areas for eating, a fully contained airconditioned area, covered area outside, then on the northern side there is another airconditioned area. The food is good tasting, and well worth the very reasonable prices. They even have house wine. Parking is good for about 15 cars and motorbikes. No need to walk far to the restuarant, only about three meters from the car park. The sister restuarant is on Bypass Road. Equally as good. Go one, give them a try.

Suntiburi Country Club
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
santaburi is an 18 hole course and used on the Asian P.G.A. tour. It is therefore a top class course and charges reflect that. You will have to hire an electric golf cart with caddie/driver. If you place your ball into the rough your caddie, normally a young lady, will search for it on your behalf. This is not out of politeness but because you are in Asia and there may possibly be the occasional snake lurking in the long grass . The 19th hole is excellent as you would expect on a P.G.A. course. If you prefer a links type course this not for you as almost every hole has a gradient, some severe. Spectators are only allowed on course during a competition.

Chinese Temple (North West)
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
The Chinese Temple exists today because of the faith of Mrs Malawan. In 1990, when Koh Phangan was still largely without electricity, Mrs Malawan came to Sangthom Temple on Koh Phangan for a ceremony of presenting the robes to the priests. During one night, sleeping outside with friends, Mrs Malawan dreamt about the Chinese Buddha, Jaomae Kuanim. The Buddha told her to build a firelight for the people. Mrs Malawan then returned to Bangkok to raise the funds and building was completed in 1992 (open from 8.00am to 5.00pm).

Loch Palm Golf Club
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
This golf course is situated in Kathu, in the middle of Phuket island. IT has the Loch Palm course and the new Red Mountain course. Both courses are 18 hole and you will have to be very true in your game to be on top of these courses, as they are very tight. Recommended.

Omega Bar
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
Omega bar is a Jam Session place. Every Wed, people gather there and play guitar, drums and dijeridoos together. You don't have to be a musician. It is enough if you love music and feel the rythm. The feeling of an Omega Bar night is exactly the opposite you get from a Full Moon Party, if you know what I mean.

Had Khom (Coconut Beach)
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
Haad Khom (Coconut Beach) is located just a short stroll through the jungle from the Chaloklaam Village. The sand is white and fine, the whole place breaths eco-friendliness. The coral reef is close to the beach and offers good snorkeling conditions. There are some midrange accomodations just a few yards from the water. For sunset, I recommend the bar at Ocean View Resort; the cocktail variety and quality is excellent.

Thong Sala
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
There are actually two markets in Thong Sala, the capital town of Koh Pha Ngan: - The ready-made food market, next to the 7-11 in the center of the town. You can find most traditional Thai and Chinese dishes here for half or maybe even one third of the price you would pay at your resort. There are also vendors selling cakes, donuts, fruit shakes and so on. - The food market, closeby, provides an endless choice of fish, meat (including pork), sea food, fruit, vegetables, spices and spirits. However, the best deal for food, handicrafts and clothing you get during the festivals. There is about one festival per month in Koh Phangan (nothing to do with the Full Moon Party), which gathers vendors from the whole Surat Thani district. Most of the prices are already discounted or easily negociable.

Haad Mae
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
Had Mae Haad is about 10 minutes by motorbyke from Chalok Lam. It's one of the best beaches for snorkelling, with the reef starting within few steps from the shore. The place features a few cheap and basic bungallow-on-the-beach type of resorts, as well as a few bars and restaurants. The nights are peaceful and starry. The only sounds come from the groups of young people playing guitar and sipping beers on the sand.
