Thanon Khao San

6 Recommendations: 6 Favorable,

Nice and cozy place to sit down during daytime to avoid the heat on the street. Nice bakery and coffee as all the Starbucks, but with the nostalgic ambiance. The house is 100 years old, colonial style where you can sit all day and enjoy dinner at night. Recommended for lone tourists.

The Emerald Buddha Temple

5 Recommendations: 5 Favorable,

If you come to Bangkok without visiting the Emerald Buddha Temple, you haven't really seen Bangkok! This is the solid proof of how skilled Thai craftsmanship had been developed. Aesthetic can not be measured in monetary value. It can be measured by each individual who can sense it and be overwhelmed by its beauty. Every day during the week is quite convenience to commute to the temple, but weekend could be quite painful. Although in some months the heat is so unbearable, polite and covered dress are required for both men and women if you want to be allowed inside the temple, meaning that no shorts, no deep v-neck, no slippers, no beachwear of all kinds etc...

Wat Arun, Bangkok Yai, Bangkok

4 Recommendations: 4 Favorable,

This Wat or Buddhist temple is an architectural representation of Mount Meru, the center of the world in Buddhist cosmology. In the mythology of Tibetan Buddhism, Mount Meru is a place that simultaneously represents the center of the universe and the single-pointedness of mind sought by adepts. Thousands of miles in height, Meru is located somewhere beyond the physical plane of reality, in a realm of perfection and transcendence. The four-corner prang of Wat Arun, which house images of the guardian gods of the four directions, reinforces this mystical symbolism. The long, elongated, Khmer-style Prang or tower, and four minor towers symbolize the terrestrial representation of the thirty-three heavens. It is possible to walk a limited way up the very steep stairs of the main prang, which gives a reasonable view of the Chao Phraya river. These steep steps lead to the two terraces that form the base of the Prang. The different layers, or heavens, are supported by Kinnaree or half-humans, and frightening Yaksas, or demon guards. Pavilions on the first platform contain priceless statues of the Buddha at the most important stages of his life. On the second terrace four statues of the Hindu god Indra or Erawan, his thirty-three headed elephant, stand guard. The main Buddha image inside the Bot is believed to have been designed by King Rama II himself, but the murals date from the reign of King Rama V.

Wat Pho

3 Recommendations: 3 Favorable,

This temple is near the Grand Palace and should be visited on the same trip. There is a large reclining Buddha statue located in the main building of this temple. The reclining Buddha was built by King Rama III who reigned about 150 years ago. The official name of Wat Bho is "Wat Phra Chetuphon vimolmangklaram". There is also the famous massage school in the area where techniques are inherit by many statues of hermits built over a hundred years ago to teach the massage positions.

Dusit Zoo

3 Recommendations: 3 Favorable,

Ideal retreat in busy Bangkok especially for families, as its traffic free zone. Not an impressive collection of animals but those they got are kept at relatively descent conditions. The surrounding area is pleasant and a lot of interesting activities for kids. Plenty of food and snack outlets at very fair prices.
