Table Mountain, Cape Town

9 Recommendations: 9 Favorable,

Here's hoping you're not nervous about heights. I'm not really, but going up the last very steep bit in the cable car and watching the cliff go by did give me a bit of a strange feeling! This is a popular destination, you'll line up for a while to get on the car. Be prepared for it to be quite cool when you are up on top, but enjoy the spectacular scenery spread out below you. The view of Cape town, the ocean, the other mountains close by is simply breath-taking. You can take quite a bit of a walk around, shop for souvenirs, get a drink and just soak up the beauty of nature.

Victoria & Alfred Waterfront

7 Recommendations: 7 Favorable,

The V & A Waterfront is a well known tourist spot. It has a wide range of shops & restaurants to choose from and an outdoor auditorium for shows & theatre. Enjoy your breakfast or lunch outside under the trees. Visit the Nelson Mandela Museum close to the Clock Tower Precinct or pop in at the shopping centre there too. There are benches where you can sit while feeding the seagulls or checking out the boats coming in/out the lock there. There are seals that swim in and out as well and will also swim alongside the boat that takes you out to Robbin Island to visit the famous jail there where Mandela & other politic prisoners were held during the apartheid. There are lots of things to do that you can pack into one day. Don't miss this!

Castle of Good Hope

4 Recommendations: 4 Favorable,

Built in Pentagonian style, the Castle of Good Hope is the second oldest completed building in Cape Town. Built bewteen 1666 and 1679 to protect it's inhabitants, not a single shot was ever fired from here. It houses the William Fehr Collection and paintings by Thomas Baines. Still today, it is the headquarters for the Western Cape military command and if you arrive shortly before noon, you can witness the "handing over of the key" ceremony.

Devonvale, Stellenbosch

3 Recommendations: 3 Favorable,

The magnificent 18-hole championship golf course needs little introduction offering a regular challenge to both local and international golfers. The original layout, designed by Ken Elkin, who designed many of the Capes better known courses, has seen several improvements of late. The introduction of indigenous plants and the removal of alien trees have not only beautified the environment, but have created panoramic vistas of the surrounding vineyards and mountains. Playing here early “before the field” must rate as the most peaceful golfing experience possible, which residents will have on their doorsteps.

Two Oceans Aquarium

3 Recommendations: 3 Favorable,

The aquarium has something for everyone - small interesting windows and the large "open-sea" area with a walkway underneath, so you get to see all these fascinating creatures swimming overhead. (If you are adventurous, you can don a wetsuit and go in to the area with staff and feed the fishes/sharks.) There is also a lovely penguin area and lots for the kids to do too. If you're really stressed out, my favourite experience is to sit in the seaweed area, just chilling out listening to the background classical music and watching the seaweed sway - see picture. You are in the Waterfront too, so after browsing around the Aquarium, you could eat on the quayside at the Victoria and Alfred Hotel, and watch the seals swimming and sunning themselves.

Cape of Good Hope, Cape Point

3 Recommendations: 3 Favorable,

This is a must-see for all tourist - you will most certainly find somebody from your home country at Cape Point. This is the most South-Western point of Africa (the most south is Cape Agulhas where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet). Just watch out for baboons - they steal food can ba quite aggressive. But never feed them!
