The State Hermitage Museum and the Winter Palace

5 Recommendations: 5 Favorable,

The State Hermitage is a museum of art and culture in Saint Petersburg, Russia. One of the largest and oldest museums of the world, it was founded in 1764 by Catherine the Great and open to the public since 1852. Its collections, of which only a small part is on permanent display, comprise nearly 3 million items, including the largest collection of paintings in the world. The collections occupy a large complex of six historic buildings along Palace Embankment, including the Winter Palace, a former residence of Russian emperors. Apart from them, the Menshikov Palace, Museum of Porcelain, Storage Facility at Staraya Derevnya and the eastern wing of the General Staff Building also make part of the museum.

St. Isaak's Cathedral

4 Recommendations: 4 Favorable,

It is the third biggest chuch in the world after Rom`s and London`s ones. It is a historical, archetectural and religious place. But the most interesting thing about this cathedral is the top place on the roof from which you can see the whole city and listen to excursion (only in Russian). You can count numerous steps to the roof, you can make wonderfull pictures from the roof. AND!!!!! You can do it during the white night!! In summer time this cathedral-museum is open till 4 a.m.

Nevsky Prospekt

3 Recommendations: 3 Favorable,

The main and the most important avenue of Saint Petersburg. It was described by many writers and poets. The venue for all major celebrations and festivals in the city. This is the place for shopping, dining, walking, people-watching...There are churches of almost all Christian confessions represented there, and many museums are 2 minites walk from Nevsky. This is the business center of the city as well. In short, you can find everything in the Nevsky avenue) Here you can feel the local life.

The Engineering Castle

3 Recommendations: 3 Favorable,

The Engineer Castle (Saint Michael's Castle) is a facinating building, it houses a small museum which is quite interesting but I find the building and surrounding grounds are more interesting. It is a former royal residence in the historic centre of Saint Petersburg. The castle looks different from each side. The royal residence was built like a castle with rounded corners in which a small octagonal courtyard is located. The castle was surrounded by the waters of the Moika River, the Fontanka River and two specially dug canals.

Stolle

3 Recommendations: 3 Favorable,

There is a chain of "Stolle" restaurants in the city. Very-very tasty pies, there is a great variety of them, sweet and regular. Salads, soups, pastry are also on the menu. Nice jazz music and interior. The pictures of the old city are decorating the halls. You can buy the whole pie or a piece and take it with you. The good option for lunch. Most cruise ship passengers on St Petersburg tour have their lunch at "Stolle". The main drawback - they do not accept cards and you can't book a table in advance. So you can expect quite a line during business lunch hours because everyone in the neighborhood goes there.
