Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam
3 Recommendations: 3 Favorable,
The Hortus Botanicus is a botanical garden. One of the oldest in the world, it was founded in 1638 by the city to serve as herb garden for doctors and apothecaries. It contains more than six thousand tropical and indigenous trees and plants. The monumental Palm House dates from 1912 and is renowned for its collection of cycads. The Hortus Botanicus' initial collection was amassed during the 17th century through plants and seeds brought back by traders of the East India Company (VOC) for use as medicines and for their possibilities for commerce. A single coffee plant, Coffea arabica, in Hortus's collection served as the parent for the entire coffee culture in Central and South America. Likewise, two small potted oil palms brought back by the VOC from Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean, produced seeds after six years, and these were propagated throughout all of Southeast Asia, becoming a major source of revenue in the Dutch East Indies and now in Indonesia. Recent additions to Hortus include a huge hothouse, which incorporates three different tropical climates.

White Elephant B.V.
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
one of the finest thai restaurants in Amsterdam. It has the Thai Chic style and therefor it's not as cheap as the simple thai restaurants that do a lot of take aways. By the way, White Elephant does take away, too. Good food, also northern style spicy salads, nice people and a perfect atmosphere for dining. romanticaly, or family.

Paradiso
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
This place rocks. It's called 'the temple of pop' ('de poptempel) because this formal church has had many many world famous artists on it's stage already. It is small, which means the concert you will be attending will be very intimate and you'll see that every artist loves to play here. Also a nice place for alternative clubbing, DJ's playing every night so this is a nice place for dancing as well. www.paradiso.nl

Oosterkerk, Hoorn
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
Originally built as a wooden chapel back in 1453, later rebuilt as the Oosterkerk, in stone (1519). The second oldest church in town (and when it was built it was actually outside of the old town). It now is a cultural center, housing expositions, and also used for weddings. When it was built it was the main church for the fishermen and sailors, closest to the old harbor. There are still many interesting historical parts to be seen in the church. One of them is the old organ, originally built in 1764, and parts of it are still there. In 1871 the organ was rebuilt and expanded by the same company that built the first organ.

Zaanse Schans
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
The Zaanse Schans is a delightful village on the banks of the river Zaan with characteristic green wooden houses, charming stylized gardens, small hump-backed bridges, tradesmen's workshops, historic windmills and engaging little shops. This enchanting village has been lovingly established by relocating local houses, windmills, storehouses and barns to form a remarkable replica of a typical Zaanse village of the seventeenth and eighteenth century. Apart from the cluster of windmills, characteristic wooden houses and delightful shops to visit, there are intriguing traditional Dutch crafts such as wooden shoes, pewter and cheese making, several fascinating museums, restaurants and even the possibility of taking a boat trip on the river. The Zaanse Schans is open daily throughout the year.

Stichting Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
As one of Europe's largest public libraries, this big city landmark opened on 07-07-07. Designed by Jo Coenen, the building treats arriving visitors to a soaring view up to its seventh floor café-restaurant, which, in turn, offers a spectacular view over Amsterdam. With walnut floors and white walls and shelves, the interior is eminently low key; colour comes from the books and the mixed bag of people using the free Wi-Fi - or the polyester study 'pods' (which make an ideal spot for a nap). The place was much praised when it opened, though critics have posed pertinent questions such as 'Um, where exactly are all the books?'

Buffet van Odette, Herengracht 309.
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
An easily accessible spot to reach on foot or hike a boot, which is a typical hype & busy eatery for quick meals. Prices are modest in light of the competitive prices from surrounding haunts. It accepts CCs (handy if avoiding ca$h on yr person) and Amex included... a Plus as alternative. You get to meet the man himself Odette Rigterink if he can make the time for a short distraction. For under €23, you will be well served incl. a glass of wine. Weekends open as well. Make a reservation: (020) 423 60 34 (recommended) if yr group consists between 6 and 30 persons. service is prompt but patience is to be expected when walking in during a busy hour. Their own kitchen soup is worth going for...ummm!!! I'll give a score of 8,5 on a 10-scaler and will be back again with another group, best time for better attention if not alone, around 14:00, when yr tour and a good rest combines well for your feet as an afternoon break.
