Kinderdijk
3 Recommendations: 3 Favorable,
If you'd like to escape the crowdiness of the big city but still want to be around big cities Kinderdijk is a great option. Kinderdijk itself is just a small village but there is a direct bus connection to Rotterdam and Utrecht, so you won't have to worry about how to get there. Kinderdijk itself, however, is very calm and beautiful to see. You can walk across the dike and watch the mills from a calm distance but you can also make a tour directly across the windmills, but make sure you're not scared of touching people: it's a crowded route. Also there is the availability to make a boat tour across the windmills, you'll see them from a very small distance. There are opportunities to rent bikes. The nicest thing of all is that there's one windmill adapted for tourists; you can go in there and see the authentic windmill just as it is (or should be, since the rest of the windmills are used as homes)

Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam
3 Recommendations: 3 Favorable,
The Hortus Botanicus is a botanical garden. One of the oldest in the world, it was founded in 1638 by the city to serve as herb garden for doctors and apothecaries. It contains more than six thousand tropical and indigenous trees and plants. The monumental Palm House dates from 1912 and is renowned for its collection of cycads. The Hortus Botanicus' initial collection was amassed during the 17th century through plants and seeds brought back by traders of the East India Company (VOC) for use as medicines and for their possibilities for commerce. A single coffee plant, Coffea arabica, in Hortus's collection served as the parent for the entire coffee culture in Central and South America. Likewise, two small potted oil palms brought back by the VOC from Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean, produced seeds after six years, and these were propagated throughout all of Southeast Asia, becoming a major source of revenue in the Dutch East Indies and now in Indonesia. Recent additions to Hortus include a huge hothouse, which incorporates three different tropical climates.

Sluis
3 Recommendations: 3 Favorable,
It's quite small, but very lively in summer. The beach is close by, and Sluis is an ideal base from which you can go to the beach or to the city of Bruges (Belgium) by bike.

Paradiso
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
This place rocks. It's called 'the temple of pop' ('de poptempel) because this formal church has had many many world famous artists on it's stage already. It is small, which means the concert you will be attending will be very intimate and you'll see that every artist loves to play here. Also a nice place for alternative clubbing, DJ's playing every night so this is a nice place for dancing as well. www.paradiso.nl

Oosterkerk, Hoorn
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
Originally built as a wooden chapel back in 1453, later rebuilt as the Oosterkerk, in stone (1519). The second oldest church in town (and when it was built it was actually outside of the old town). It now is a cultural center, housing expositions, and also used for weddings. When it was built it was the main church for the fishermen and sailors, closest to the old harbor. There are still many interesting historical parts to be seen in the church. One of them is the old organ, originally built in 1764, and parts of it are still there. In 1871 the organ was rebuilt and expanded by the same company that built the first organ.

Mezz concerts & dance
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
Since it’s opening in October 2002 Mezz concerts & dance has been the heart of pop culture in Breda. Mezz has a main stage with room for 650 visitors, a separate cafe with a small stage for 100 visitors, plus four modern fully equipped rehearsal rooms. The sensational building that houses Mezz is an eyecatcher in the center of Breda. The main concert hall has been specially designed with extra special attention being paid to sound, light and technical specifications. The architecture of Mezz is modern and exceptional. From outsider an organically formed copper building with a round dynamic form and lines that within the building result in a shell form stage. The warm, atmospheric hall is wider than it is long, bringing you closer to the stage and more “in touch” with the artists. Thanks to the sophisticated acoustics and advanced PA system you are guaranteed a unique and optimum LIVE experience. Next to the concert hall is Mezz Cafe, a meeting place for everyone who in one way or another is involved in the music scene. It’s a place to meet and talk before and after a concert, or where musicians can take a break from rehearsing in one of the four rehearsal rooms. Mezz Cafe also has a small stage, sound and light facilities where young talent can experience playing live as well as smaller concerts can take place.

Talk with the “Bredanaars’’, let all the impressions move you and discover the true character of the city! My hometown, the nicest spot in the Netherlands!

Zaanse Schans
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
The Zaanse Schans is a delightful village on the banks of the river Zaan with characteristic green wooden houses, charming stylized gardens, small hump-backed bridges, tradesmen's workshops, historic windmills and engaging little shops. This enchanting village has been lovingly established by relocating local houses, windmills, storehouses and barns to form a remarkable replica of a typical Zaanse village of the seventeenth and eighteenth century. Apart from the cluster of windmills, characteristic wooden houses and delightful shops to visit, there are intriguing traditional Dutch crafts such as wooden shoes, pewter and cheese making, several fascinating museums, restaurants and even the possibility of taking a boat trip on the river. The Zaanse Schans is open daily throughout the year.
