Mahabalipuram, also known as Mamallapuram is a town in Kancheepuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It has an average elevation of 12 metres (39 feet). Mahabalipuram was a 7th century port city of the South Indian dynasty of the Pallavas around 60 km south from the city of Chennai in Tamil Nadu. The name Mamallapuram is believed to have been given after the Pallava king Narasimhavarman I, who took on the epithet Maha-malla (great wrestler), as the favourite sport of the Pallavas was wrestling. It has various historic monuments built largely between the 7th and the 9th centuries, and has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This is one of the best places in chennai to have hot hot appams / hoppers. The best dish that goes along with hoppers is coconut milk / onion ulithiliyel , this is a speciality in this restaurant , and am sure u wouldnt have tasted anything like this anywhere else. U get other regular south / north indian fares too - veg and non - veg . Usually crowded over lunch / dinner especially over the weekends. U could see a big office going crowd on the weekdays. Have a gud time eating here. Cheers. Also available in OMR Road too.

Kanchipuram, Kanchi, or Kancheepuram is a temple city and a municipality in Kanchipuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a temple town and the headquarters of Kanchipuram district. In ancient times it was called Kachi and Kachiampathi. Kanchipuram is located on the Palar River, and known for its temples and silk sarees.
