Mannar District is located in northwestern Sri Lanka. It is one of five administrative districts of the Northern Province. The district covers 2,002 sq. km, approximately 3% of the total land area of Sri Lanka. Geographically the bulk of Mannar is on the mainland within the arid and dry zone. High temperatures and low rainfall characterize the climate. The monthly temperatures range between 26.5°C and 30.0°C with highs normally recorded between May and August. Mannar receives nearly 60% of its rainfall during the northeast monsoon, which lasts from October through December. The land area is relatively flat and sits at low elevations.

A slow journey through the inner roads under the shadow of tall graceful coconut palms is advisable to see the vast paddy fields below sea level dewatered and cultivated. Most of the village part you can cover by a small motor boat. Travel through canals viewing the village life on both sides gives you an unforgettable experience and pleasure. Water side activities of fishing, toddy- tapping, rice growing, along the palm lined banks and narrow strips of land that separate the waterways, and the constant quiet traffic of traditional dugouts are typical. From the boat you can see many varieties of plants such as coconuts, jack fruits, banana and cassava growing.

Kochi is a great place to hang out..Go to Fort Kochi and you will have a beach , Chinese fishing nets...Full with the South Indian culture Nearby is Kottayam. It is a scenic place. One can go for boating. Sea food is a delicacy in this part of World.It is gonna pour down in the June-July but best time is September-October.So come over, have a great time. munnar, the word means three rivers, one of the popular hillstations in south india situated on the western ghats, at its highest point. it borders tamilnadu with kerala.one of the major centres where the british chose to grow tea planations. kannan devan , the tribal leader who led the way for the then british planters brought the name for this hills as kannan devan hills.just 130 kms from kochi,connected by road to many major cities in kerala and tamilnadu. eravikulam national park homes the unique nilgiri thars. the worlds oldest sandalwood forest is located just outside munnar.

a palace built for the cochin maharajas by the portugese in 1555ad. after a century later when cochin fell under the dutch, they renovated it for the new maharaja,and made it more beautiful with wodden cealings, arched doors and windows etc. later the palace rooms were painted with mural painintgs to decorate the maharajas and queens bedrooms etc.open on all days except fridays and national holidays. entrance fee Rs 5 per person. no photography permitted

thrivandrum zoo is one of the oldest zoos in India, spread over 80 acres of land in the heart of the city. any visitor to this city, it is one of the major attractions. also for the local of trivandrum, the zoo is one of the places where they love to visit. it houses animals and birds from all over india and also from other countries. it has open cages for the tigers, leopards,lions,giraffe,rhinos,elephants and bears. many birds which are not normally seen elsewhere also in this zoo. the entrance fee is rs 7 and opens from 09-05 pm excepts mondays and wednesday forenoon. there is a natural history museum in the complex which houses stuffed specimens of a number of animals and birds.

this is a picnic tour place which is about 70 kms from trivandrum, or about 50 kms from kollam. there is a boating facility in the lake, which normally a boring experience. the musical fountain which operates only at 7 pm the activity zone with facilities for mountain biking, rope climbing,elevated walkway etc are good if you are young and fit. only place to satisfy your hunger is the KTDC motel, which is just ordinary and may or may not have any thing to offer to you.carry enough food,and drinks especially if you are traveleing with children, it can cost upto 200-250 per person entry fee if you opt for most of the facilities. it is good if you have seen all other attractions near trivandrum .
