Rock Garden
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
The ROCK garden in Chandigarh is a unique artificial construct. Made by Nek Chand, a supervisor with the Chandigarh buildings and roadways authority during the 1950's through 60's to the 70's. Nek Chand started picking up discarded construction item from all the building sites that he saw overseeing and started constructing figures in an out of the way part of the city zone for his own pleasure. Over time he amassed a huge collection which he then started arranging in lots and scenically according to his own sense of aesthetics. The result - The Rock Garden. Acclaimed world wide and now a heritage item. Nek Chand is a much in demand man now. You cannot miss the Rock garden even if just passing through Chandigarh. MUST VISIT! :-)

Their Kachoris, Samosas, and other eats are prepared hygienically, tasty and spicy! They have a great collection of sweets, my favourites are the Kaju (cashew) preparations. They have this wicked drink which they put together! It is soooo tasty and full of calories and stuff! Positively sinful! I love it!

Chandigarh
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
Chandigarh is the best-planned city in India, with architecture which is world-renowned, and a quality of life, which is unparalleled. As the capital of the states of Punjab and Haryana, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh it is a prestigious city. The face of modern India, Chandigarh, is the manifestation of a dream that Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru envisaged and Le Corbusier executed. Serenity and a city are two diametrically opposite concepts, which however, get belied in the 'City Beautiful'. Chandigarh is a rare epitome of modernization co-existing with nature's preservation. It is here that the trees and plants are as much a part of the construction plans as the buildings and the roads. India’s first planned city, is a rich, prosperous, spic and span, green city rightly called “ THE CITY BEAUTIFUL ”.

Kyi Monastery
2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,
Kye (Ki) Monastery in Spiti valley is another magnificient monument in Himachal Pradesh. The structure is so huge, that it looks more like a fort, than a monastery. The construction of this monastery does not look very orderly, rather it seems that in successive time, many temples have been added on top of the existing one. It has been a major centre of Buddhist learning and pilgimage. Kye houses beautiful scriptures and paintings of Budha and other gods and goddesses. The monastery is also a centre for religious teachings to Lamas (the Tibetan Monks). One can find Lamas practice, dance, sing and play on pipes and horns. It has a cloocetion of ancient murals and books of high aesthetic value. This monastery is a perfect example of the monastic architecture. Kye monastery was attacked by the Mongols during 17th century, and suffered 3 more attacks in 19th century. The successive trails of destruction and patch-up jobs have resulted in a haphazard growth of box-like structures, and thus complex now resembles a defensive fort.

A small peaceful place, best visited walking slowly around the monastery. The fort, which looks like a tower, has a beautiful wooden balcony. Moreover, there is also an image of Kamkhya (Kamakshi) Devi placed on the third floor. The deity is supposed to be brought all the way from Assam. A 15th century temple dedicated to Lord Badrinath is also a highlight of the fort. This temple becomes a venue for the triennial festival when the image of Lord Badrinath is carried to Gangotri, the place where the sacred river Ganga originates Located at an altitude of 2600 m, the Kamru Fort is just 2 km away from the Solan valley and 229 km away from Shimla.
