Status Que Conservative Synagogue

The Staus Que Conservative Synagogue dates from 1909 and is once again falling apart, while the facade of the nearby Orthodox synagogue (Pászti utca 6) has enjoyed a lick of paint but its interior is still waiting for some much-needed TLC.

Protestant Great Church of Debrecen

Many of Debrecen's big status sighta are at the Northern end of Piac utca,including the yellow neoclassical Great Church. Built in 1821, it has become so synonymous with Debrecen that the images of its twin clock towers were reportedly seen on the Great Plain early last century. Accomodating some 3000 people, the Great Church is Hungary's Largest Potestant church,and it was here that Lajos Kossuth read the Declearation of Indepence from Austria on 14 April 1849. The nave is rather plain and austere aside from the magnificent organ in the loft behind the pulpit. Climb the 210 steps to the top of the west clock tower for grand views over the city.

North of the Great Church stands the Reformed College,built in 1816, the site of a prestigious secondary school and theological college since the middle ages,. Downstairs, there are exhibits on religous art and sacred objects(including a 17th-century chalice made from a coconut) and on the school's history, where 'early to bed, early to rise' was the motto. Upstairs is the relatively bland 650,000-volume library and the bright, white oratory, where the breakaway National Assembly met in 1849 and Hungary's postwar provisional government was decleared in 1944.

Aquaticum Debrecen Mediterrán Élményfürdő

This is a good indoor water park operating whole year. I was lucky, because I could buy discount ticket in the hotel I was staying in. The thermal spa and the water park have lot of things (there is also a combined ticket): saunas, 6 medical hot springs (2 of them have cold temperature), 1 outdoor hot spring (even at winter you can use it), the aquapark has 1 theme pool (with fountains, stream corridor, cave, sparkling water, etc), 2 bigger jacuzzis, 4 smaller jacuzzis, child pool, swimming pool, 2 bigger water slides, 2 smaller water slides, twin slide for children and a kamikaze slide, play house for children, restaurant where the prices are normal and you have to pay only when you leave the facility. The terrirory is not too big, cant compete with the outdoor ones, however it is warm inside, and also the slides are short and boring after the second slide, sometimes you can hit your arm easily. In 2 slides you can not sit up, I dont recommend for people who have claustrophoby.

Hunguest Hotel Nagyerdő

It is a nice wellness hotel. When I was there I got the old socialism feeling in the rooms, but I didn't mind it. The room and the bathroom are airy and well lit. The breakfast and the dinner was delicous and abundant. I think the prices of the drinks was average. The hotel has a small hot spring and a sauna inside of the building. In addition you can pay for several medical treatments like medical massage, mud pack, etc. Close to the hotel (approximately 200 meters) there is an indoor water park operating whole year. I will write a review about this park also.

Hortobagy National Park

This National Park is the best place for watching birds in Hungary! A lots of colorful and rare bird breeds here, like Red-footed Falcon, Roller, Great Bustard, Hoopoe, Pygmy Cormorant, Penduline Tit, Bearded Tit, Golden Oriole, ect.!Do you need a guide, drop me a mail to birdinginhungary@gmail.com

Nyíregyháza is located in the eastern part of the country and many people wouldn't even think about finding a mediterranean garden, an asian species part and an australian kangaroos all collected into one park. Wortha a train journey to Nyíregyháza.

This is a very place for an outdoor experience in Debrecen. A very good wildlife experience with animals from all continents. It is very ideal for children(kids). It is located in the great forest(Nagyerdo) so it makes it a very good location for the animals and it is also a quiet place.
