El Gaucho

3 Recommendations: 3 Favorable,

This is my favorite restaurant in Viña. It specializes in Argentinian style cuisine. Service is excellent, dishes can be expensive, but I always split the meal with someone and I am usually full. When my family came for our wedding we ate here and we got a parrillada which includes all of their best dishes on one big platter though you need a minimum of six people to eat all of the food.

Mall Marina Arauco

4 Recommendations: 3 Favorable, 1 Critical

In every big city there is a mall, and of course, Viña has it's own. Marina Arauco Mall is a 4 storey building, and you can find several stores to go shopping or window shopping for clothes, shoes, accesories, office supplies, drugstores, photography supplies, ATMs and of course restaurants and a movie theater. If you're driving you can park your car underground, but you must pay a little amount if you stay for more than 3 hours. The beach is two blocks away. Across the Mall there is a supermarket and more stores, including a pet store, a gym and a Blockbuster. So have fun in Viña...is a great city!

FUNICULARS, CLIFF RAILWAY LIFTS (ELEVATORS) Valparaíso - Chile

2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,

A great memory, In most countries these would heve been sent to museums or hailed as relics from the past. here they just keep on movin. You geta real sense of the ages, mans incredible assent into the high tech considering how young these are. Nostalgic and other worldly, A good glimpse into the psyche of Chile.

La Vida en Verde

2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,

This is a place that Valparaiso needed desperately. We have a few good bars, and many cool places to go dancing, but La Vida En Verde is a place where you mix culture, sports history and fun, all in one place. La vida's theme is Santiago Wanderers, the firs official soccer team in Chile (1892). Because the first team in Chile was Mackay & Sutherland (1882). So, this place has a mix of passion for soccer or Fútbol; a grea atmosphere; a mix of the old and new, being that the walls are decorated with pictures from the early and mid 20th century, but at the same time, the tables, chairs and bar area are all new (Reminds me of an "Ikea" type of furniture, but we don't have that in Chile). Anyway, the bar has a wide variety of drinks and they serve little auderves that make the mood just perfect.

Playa Grande, Quintay, Chile

2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,

This is a beautiful beach which is relatively unkown to tourists. It is ideal for realaxing, swimming and jogging in the surf. At the far end of the beach if the tide is out, you will encounter caves that are ideal for exploring. Nearby is the town of Quintay where there are some nice seafood restaurants and the whaling museum

WHEELWRIGHT COAST PROMENADE VALPARAISO, CHILE

1 Recommendations: 1 Favorable,

The Wheelwright coast promenade is stretches from Baron pier to Portales fishermen cove, in a beautiful public place to walk and to enjoy the sea or the Valparaiso's lovely sunset. During the trip you can see the old Baron pier that became a place for birds and sea lions, old railway areas, you can see the rest of some shipwreck, the Santa María University, Portales beach, and seafood restaurants. Also it has a bike path. Good place to take a walk, ride your bike, take pictures and enjoy sea food.

ANGLICAN CHURCH OF VALPARAISO

1 Recommendations: 1 Favorable,

The Saint Paul Anglican Church of Valparaíso is one of the places in the city where you can get a really close look at the European immigration of the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century. It was built in the year 1858 by the engineer William Lloyd. Its structure is the reflection of its period, when religious freedom did not exist and protestants had to handle a low profile. It is the first protestant temple of Chile. Inside we can find all the splendor of the Victorian era and the English neogothic style. The presence of British culture is obvious with numerous plaques in English where two enormous bronze plaques stand out with the name of young Englishmen who traveled from Valparaíso to the two world wars and never came back. Its most complex and beautiful treasure is the Queen Victoria Memorial Organ, an imposing musical instrument that was designed exclusively for this church and was installed between the years 1902 and 1903, in homage to the sovereign that passed away in 1901. It was donated by the British community of Valparaíso and was built by the Fosters & Andrews Company. It is considered the best in its type in South America and has been restored and is constantly repaired and taken care of by a specialized musician. Every Sunday, at noon, free concerts are given for all the public who wishes to attend.
