Cajón del Maipo
5 Recommendations: 5 Favorable,
Cajón del Maipo, about one hour from Santiago, is a narrow strip of land, framed by high Cordillera mountains and also the name given to a host of small rural villages along the Maipo River. Among these the most important are San Alfonso, San Gabriel, and San José de Maipo... Most Santiaguinos visit Cajón del Maipo especially in the Spring, Summer and Fall, as Winters are particularly cold and snowy, and the road is narrow and therefore dangerous to drive on when slippery. It is then recommendable to visit Cajón del Maipo on warmer days, on day-trips or also during weekends. It is a nice getaway from the city, as there are some small rural hostals, the air is clean, the atmosphere is rural, and gastronomy is especially interesting as there are many small restaurants that offer typical Chilean country food, prepared in the traditional rustic style thus respecting the original flavor. Prices are very convenient, and you will probably want to take back with you various products such as nuts, almonds, and vacuum packed "charqui"( dried and salted horse meat). If you like adventure, you can also practice canooing in some sections of the river. Advice: try to return to the city before sundown, as at times there are traffic jams on the narrow road at the end of the day on weekends and if you get caught in one it may take you even up to five hours to get back to the city...

Palacio de La Moneda
4 Recommendations: 4 Favorable,
The Palacio de la Moneda (the Palace of the Coin or Mint Palace, as it is the place where coins were originally minted), is the traditional site where Chilean Presidents - and their closer staff - work, and where they lived until the 1950's. It is located right in the center of the city. Although the architecture is traditional, it has been renovated and modernized in the last years. Every two days you can watch the traditional changing of the Palace Guards, a main tourist attraction. A large and modern Art Center, with a varied offer of traditional Chilean handicrafts, now functions in an underground area, right in front of the Palacio de la Moneda. I highly recommend you to visit both, but I believe you must be on site to really enjoy all there is to learn on these interesting places.

El Gaucho
3 Recommendations: 3 Favorable,
This is my favorite restaurant in Viña. It specializes in Argentinian style cuisine. Service is excellent, dishes can be expensive, but I always split the meal with someone and I am usually full. When my family came for our wedding we ate here and we got a parrillada which includes all of their best dishes on one big platter though you need a minimum of six people to eat all of the food.

Mall Marina Arauco
4 Recommendations: 3 Favorable, 1 Critical
In every big city there is a mall, and of course, Viña has it's own. Marina Arauco Mall is a 4 storey building, and you can find several stores to go shopping or window shopping for clothes, shoes, accesories, office supplies, drugstores, photography supplies, ATMs and of course restaurants and a movie theater. If you're driving you can park your car underground, but you must pay a little amount if you stay for more than 3 hours. The beach is two blocks away. Across the Mall there is a supermarket and more stores, including a pet store, a gym and a Blockbuster. So have fun in Viña...is a great city!

Bigas Restobar
3 Recommendations: 3 Favorable,
This is a nice place to enjoy a good glass of wine with a nice spanish omelet or any of the mediterranean plates Bigas has to offer. But, definitelty, the one thing you can´t miss in this place, is their amazing Sangria, a drink you can share with your friends or date. What´s also so enjoyable about Bigas is that, along with a very good service, you can either be indoors or outdoors and you will like it either way.
