Schönbrunn Palace

2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,

This is a not to be missed attraction in vienna. You get some insight into the mind of Marie Antoinette's family and how the way they lived affected her. It's a gorgeous palace with a huge area to explore. Beautiful fountains, walks, tree-lined sidewalks to enjoy the day.

Haus des Meeres, 1060 Vienna

2 Recommendations: 2 Favorable,

The "house of the sea" is located very close to the mariahilfer straße, a very busy shopping street in the heart of vienna. The tower was built in the second world war for Anti Air cannons is due to its location and massiveness hard to destruct. The massive tower contains several aquariums and terrariums making it easy to explore a more "exotic" fauna and flora then you can find in austria itself. The house of the sea is an ideal location to spend rainy days and still explore some of the nicest sites in vienna.

Wien-Hietzing Tram Stop

1 Recommendations: 1 Favorable,

If you take the U4 U-Bahn from Karlsplatz, go in the direction of Hütteldorf. You get off at the the stop called Hietzing. If you go around back of the station upstairs, you will notice a stop for the Nr 60 Tram. It takes you in the direction of the 23rd district, the very south of Vienna - and a ride to the end station called Rodaun takes about 25 mins. It is a very beautiful ride & reveals a much less urban part of Vienna. When get off in the end, there's lots of park-like locales for easy walking or hiking. ( This recommendation applies to Spring through Autumn - not later than Oct 15th though )

Glacis Beisl

1 Recommendations: 1 Favorable,

A recently remodeled Restaurant/Bar that's quite convenient to the Museumsquartier ( Where the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Kunsthalle, and Stiftung Leopold is located ), located on a hill above and behind the museums. A great place to go with groups or a romantic date...this place has lots of history and atmosphere ( at least, it did in 1997 when I had my opening party for 25 up there ).

St. Stephen's Cathedral

1 Recommendations: 1 Favorable,

This is Austria's greatest gothic cathedral. It's in the heart of Vienna and is undoubtedly one of THE most popular touristic destinations. Around Christmastime are choral concerts for which tickets may be purchased through local ticket agencies. You might want to climb a special staircase of 800 or so steps to go up to the pinnacle of the spire, which towers above the city.

Burg Kino

1 Recommendations: 1 Favorable,

Great Viennese Kino (movie theatre) with lots of tradition. For example, you can ALWAYS catch a screening of Carol Reed's original 'Third Man' there and get some of that downbeat postwar Viennese flavor oozing out of it. Otherwise, there are a few screens inside, usually playing currently ( in the USA ) popular releases from the US and the UK. If you get there for early showings you can get a reduced price for your ticket. Seniors only pay 5 Euros for a ticket. You can get beer on draft as well as good old fashioned BUTTERED popcorn, too.

Gerngross

1 Recommendations: 1 Favorable,

All-purpose shopping center ( with 6 floors )in the heart of Mariahilferstrasse in the Neubau section of Vienna. It has many clothing stores, with home furnishings, plus a Saturn for all your computer needs up on the 6th floor. With the U-Bahn (Subway), get off at the south end of the Neubaugasse station and the store entrance is a few doors down the sidewalk on your right. For more upscale clothing shopping, turn left at the sidewalk and you will come to the Peek und Cloppenburg Department Store. AND THE BEST BARGAINS CAN BE HAD DURING THE MONTH OF JANUARY, EVERYWHERE.

Bahn-o-rama

1 Recommendations: 1 Favorable,

A recently erected tower that looks across an impressive vista, south of the central part of town. Open times are 8a.m to 6 p.m. Necessary to dress well with wind-breaker (scarves!) protection. Yes, this adventure is not for the faint of heart or infirm..VERY invigorating to take the stairs up the 45 -meter-tall tower. You also -SURPRISE- can decide to take the lift to the top ( cost 2 euros or so )! You'll meet nice, invigorated people there, as well - that's for sure!

Burggarten

Great venue year round which always has a tropical greenhouse open for a small admission fee. In spring you can while away the hours at one of the most comfortable and accessible -elegant outdoor cafes in Vienna overlooking the Burggarten and the Ring.
