2000 USD sounds enough for places like Ras-romman, old-manama, Houra and kodaibiya. However, i dont think it will be enough to stay in areas like adleeya, um-alhassam or zinj. Hopefully this is helpfull information....good luck in finding a property.

is the 2000 including the accommodation? becoz the accomodation is very expenssive here and it depends to where u live ( in the capital or in the suburbs)? but the rent in the capital is arround $ 1000 per month. so it depends on ur expenses , sometimes 1000 $ is enough to live

MKS is a good school in a very good location. $2000 a month is a very good salary as long as it does not include your housing allowance and other incidentals (health insurance, transportation, etc.) Be very clear on your compensation package. Rentals in Bahrain is scandalously expensive. Even the cost of living has significantly increased. However, if you can manage your resources properly, you will make it here. Bahrain is a beautiful place to live and work in. The people are generally friendly! Bahrain will probably shatter popular misconceptions about Islamic countries.

It would be a new challenge for you to consider it. I think it's reasonable. The cost of living in bahrain is not that high compare to other GCC countries. You can also find an affordable place to stay near manama with in your budget. Good Luck... See YOU around soon.....

I lived on 2000$ an month and it excluded rent, car and healthcare and it was very good to manage. As already mentioned you need to assess your package. If 2000$ is all you get I would not consider even going to Bahrain. That Bahrain is one of the cheaper GCC countries is simply not true.I have been to Kuwait, Saudi, UAE and Qatar. Bahrain is nicely up there with the rest. Sometimes even more expensive as everything has to be imported to the island and has a small market compared to other countries and thus pushing the prices up.
As for the rent, the landlords are extremly greedy and will increase per default the rent by 10% after each contract finished and if they want more the will make sure you leave.
In addition read the gulf daily news online for a while to see what you getting yourself into. The people are friendly, but usually only if they want something from you.
I left Bahrain after two years as this society is not what they advertise.
Nobody can dispute the fact that a lot of Bahraini people are poor and unhappy with the goverment and the Indians, Pakistani are treated like dirt (just read about the open truck transport).
If you like burning tires every weekend, overpriced services, pollution, rubbish everywhere a riot here and there and suppression of certain groups of hard working people then Bahrain is your place to be.
You have been warned.

Many of the answers to your questions have been accurate. However, I would still add a bit. Bahrain is like any developing country. There are beautiful areas though much of the country is as Pete mentions dirty and poorly maintained. That being said my family has truly embraced the lifestyle and quite enjoy living here. Is the salary that you mention $2000USD or Bahraini Dinar? This is a key question as the 2000BHD would actually translate to $5300usd. Not at all hard to live comfortably on even if you have to pay for housing out of pocket. If in fact you are talking about $2000usd you will have to very frugally to make it worth your while. The cost of living here can be quite high though that does depend on your lifestyle more then the expense of general items. The EXPAT community is very active and friends are made easily. Everyone is in much the same boat, living apart from their family and friends back home.

Bahrain/Manama is very small and the distance to your school is short. You will find very easy a place to stay.
But living in Bahrain s quite expensive. 1Bedroom app. will start furnitured by 200BD and 2000US$ comes to ~700BD.
If you don't spend too much for your daily living; 2.000BD is OK. Average sal. in Bahrain (I don't know the education market) could come to 800 BD

Well if your alone and not supporting a family $ 2000 is enough, but it also depends on your other expenses, on which only you have control.
