sure! You can do many things in 7 hours. I would recommend a walk around Budai Vár (Castle of Buda), there are also nice cafés at the area!

there is a link to make it easier:
http://www.budapestinfo.hu/it/curiosit___de_vedere_nostro_patrimonio_d__architectura_passeggiata_nel_castello

Then you can have a walk at Andrássy street (Champs-Elysees of Budapest) and head off for Heroes' Square. If you love arts, there are some museums.

Have a nice time at Budapest!

I wouldnt miss the castle district (Matthias church, the fisherman's bastion and the royal castle), if you have only short time - not only because it is beautiful, but you can enjoy the best panorama to Budapest from the fisherman's bastion. If you still have time and dont wanna walk too much you can also visit the buda castle's labirynth. It is a huge labirynth which takes you around inside the hill and has funny time traveling exhibits inside. If you wanna walk further, you could walk through the chainbridge to Pest and see the parliament and the saint stephen basilica, these are still must sees and within walking distance.

Enjoy!!!

7 hours is quite a short period of time...So if would like to be impressed by the city instead of being in a hurry and confusion, then the best way to see the city is to take a sighseeing bus. There are hop on-hop off services, so you can spend some time at the places you like the most. For example Castle district worth some time.
information about the sightseeing buses are here:

http://www.programcentrum.hu/en

You can catch the bus at "Deák Ferenc tér". All of the metro lines intersect here so it is easy to go there with any of the metro lines. After exiting the metro station look for ticket sellers who are in an orange T-shirt or with a "poster" hanging in their neck.
Have a nice time here!

Well 7 hrs. is not very long time since you should calculate that you have to get from and to the airport, which by airport taxi can take between 45min to an hour and a half, depending on traffic. Any ways your best bet is to got to the center of the city and take a guided tour. I can so recommend you a private tour which would cost a bit more but they can pick you up at the airport and take you back. So if you interested in either one then please write back and I can try to arrange one of them.

Hi aslxda3,

Are you a real human being, and is this a real question? Or is it just a question from the Localyte to speed up the hungarian part a bit? ;)

If you are real, please let us know some facts about you, because a "what-to-do" suggestion depends on your age, sex, and interest. Don't you think?

I belive in your reality, so proove it, please! :)

Best regards from Hungary!

Ok. 7 hours- 2 hours to get to the city and back to the airport =5 hours. You either take the the train the takes you to Nyugati Pályaudvar (Railway station in the centre) in 20 minutes for 300 HUF or a taxi that drives you to the city in 40 minutes for 5000 HUF. If you are there, go to Deák tér (by blue metro line, from Nyugati it's 2 stops). That's the centre of everything. If you want, you can hop on a sightseeing bus that drives you around the city in 2 hours or you can have a meal out, there are restaurants nearby, I think Váci utca is the best and you can hit 2 flies with one stone then. Váci utca is an attractive and buzzling shopping street but don't forget to go along it and don't stop in the middle of it (where a busy street crosses it just go downstairs).
I think if you follow my instruction you'll get the most of the city :) Good luck!

Do not miss the Citadel on the Gellert Hill, the highest point with the best view of the city. You can reach it either by a taxi - ask for the Citadel or if you prefer public transport and thus getting a deeper impression of the city's everyday life and its people you can take either tram 6 from anywhere on the second ring direction Moricz Zsigmond square (Móricz Zsigmond körtér) or tram 47 or 49 from Deak Ferenc (or simply Deak) square (Deák Ferenc tér) to Moricz Zsigmond square where you have to change to bus 27 – on the Villanyi ut next to the imposing building of High school St Margaret (Szent Margit Gimnázium) - and get off at stop "Búsuló juhász". There go uphill and you'll see the Citadel. Back to the city the best way is walking downhill since the way is a combination of nice slopes and stairs across a protected area and arriving at the abutment of Elisabeth Bridge (Erzsebet hid).

Well - a 7 hrs layover is about 4 hrs in real life, if you take transfer time to the city and check-in off. I would suggest you to take a taxi to downtown, Vörösmarty square, enjoy a cup of coffee with a traditional Hungarian pastry, walk in 5 min. to the Danube bank, look around the World Heritage site with the bridges and the Castle Hill across. And hop back in a taxi to return to the airport.

First thing to consider is whether your layover is during the week, or on the weekend. It would also help to know whether your connecting flight is an international or a domestic one and whether you need to check-in. Reasons: if your flight is during the week and you wish to travel into the city and back out to the airport during the peak rush hours, count at least 1 hour into the city and 1 hour back to the airport. Otherwise it is only 1/2 hour either way. Also if you flight is an international one, you would need to arrive at least 2 hours earlier for check-in. Only 1 hour earlier for the domestic flight, no less than that though! So worst case scenario, rush hour traffic both ways, international flight check-in, this leaves you 3 hours from your 7 hour layover. Best case scenario however, no traffic, domestic flight, leaves you with 5 hours from your 7 hour layover. Either way, well worth a forray into our beautiful city. What would I recommend? Shopping, shopping, shopping. Of course I am referring to the Hungarian delicacies such as Tokaj Desert Wine (make sure it is no less than '4 Puttony' is written on the bottle), paprika (can never have enough for cooking) and, or course, Hungarian table wines and palinka (like schnapps, only not as sweet). The best place to do this is the Nagy Vásárcsarnok (the taxi driver will know where it is) and since this is by the Danube you can also take a nice long walk, perhaps sit down in one the the cafés and enjoy the spectacular views! Of course once you've been completely enamoured by our beautiful city, you can use the time back at the airport queing for your connecting flight by planning a long weekend trip to Budapest. Hope this helps :)

Go to the Downtown, buy a bottle of good wine, and take a walk in bank of Danube, or take a trip with the tramway number 2, you can see almost everything from that.
