We will go to Makarska in august and have heard that the beach is very crowded at that time. Is there any beaches nearby (walking distance) or at little further away that can be recommended?

Kilometers long beaches in Makarska, are widely known for clean sand, quiet pine forests and above all clear blue sea. You can absolutely relax and sip cocktails during the sunbathing on the beach because there is a baywatch service looking after you... For courageous, who want privacy there are also many naturist beach.

* Beach Brela - located about 14 km northwest of Makarska and presents the longest and most beautiful beach in Dalmatia. Six kilometers of pebbly beach, which is indented in small bays, and covered with pine trees where is a number of beautiful houses and cottages that are intended for holidays and tourist yachts.

The main beach lies between the old town and the big hotels, nudist sites can be found in the south of the city on the beach Nugal. Sandy and pebbly beaches can be found along the Makarska Riviera from Brela to Gradac.

City of Makarska has a beach so called BUBA BEACH and it is really great place for having fun with your friends or finding some new ones.Whole summer at that remarcable beach is playing house music with the DJ!From 10 a.m until 4p.m it is a perfect place for drinking cocktails and dancing with a whole new bunch of people! It is situated 20 minutes walk from the centre of the town. You can get there walking next to the beach or you can easily use the train(looks like a train for the children-isn`t a real one:))A ride costs 10 kunas(1,4 euros).Enjoy!

Beaches in Makarska are not send beaches as some said, they are all pebbles and some on clifs. August is still heart of the season and the main beach is very busy. If you're up for little walking, you could find an area with less people just going west, or you could rent bike or take a little train. That train will take you past Ferijalno (where that Beach Bar Bubba is), also Cvitacka and at the end Ramova, where you can often see paragliders land. That beach looks like the one in Bol on the island of Brac. There is usualy not that many people and if you walk just little bit more, there are little beaches just in the shadows of the pine trees.

I'm sorry, but I don't know Makarska that well. I know they have beautiful beaches but since you're coming in August, all the beaches are crowded at this time of year. If you prefere not crowded beaches, you should come in September!

Makarska beach is crowded but it is also large enough to accommodate its visitors - so no need to search for other beaches. I do recommenced to take some daily excursions to island Brač and Hvar and there enjoy lovely hidden beaches. Enjoy your stay in Croatia !

Brela has 3 blue flag designated beaches. Makarska beaches are crowded and not so clean (sorry, it is true)

Brela has 10 km of board walk along beach and even in August you can find a cove and be alone. I swear it, as I own a house and appts there. Brela center has more accomodations and is louder, Jakiruska is more peaceful.

kind regards

August is a high season in Makarska and it is very crowded, especially over the weekends when people from Makarska inland area got to beach . You will definitely not find secluded place within walking distance.

BUT! You can rent a boat or go to fish-picnic or take one of daily tours to island Brač. Once you are in Makarska, a visit to Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn) beach in Bol-Island Brač is a must.
