apartment sublets in Breda

avatar

Web

Hi. My husband was born in Breda and lived there until he was 9 when his family moved to the US. He is retired now and we would love to visit Holland for a month making Breda our homebase. Would you know anyway we could begin researching apartments/condos that might be available for sublease? We've found that often times people need to travel for business, or other reasons and are willing to sublease their apartments for a reasonable amount. We of course have good references and such. It would be such a treat to live in one of the older areas of Breda (my husband use to live close to the castle and old train station I think) and have the experience of Dutch living. Thanks for any advice you can give us, Gail

Dear Gail, I'm from Breda, but by hart I don't know any organisation who could provide such service of living in ones home for about a month. At the moment I'm in Korea, But I'll return on 16th may. I could search around for you. If you would like to have some trips in Breda (and/or area) see my profile and I can provide it!

Could you let me know, what period you want to stay in Breda and what kind of amount you have in mind for the rent...

Cheers! Eva

Thanks for the fast reply. I've been searching CraigsList, but find no Breda subleases, mostly Amsterdam. I've talked with people who have successfully subleased before, obtaining references on both ends, of course. We would be looking for something in the late August, early September time frame.

If it works out, we would love to have you reintroduce us to Breda. We haven't been there since 1976!

Dear Gail,

I guess lending an appartment will be tricky. If you want to experience the dutch live, you can also try a bed and breakfast. Check out http://www.bedandbreakfast.nl/bb/Timeout for a really nice one.

Good luck!

Welcome Gail and soon too with yr hubby. It is reminiscent of knowing once, the "man behind Elvis" stardom was from Breda too... ;)
As to short stay with lodgings under special circumstances, there are many private homes who are willing & indeed prepared to welcome seniors and cherish company even for a short period.
However, Dutch folks are also apprehensive with foreigners living within their own quarters, some have built beautiful summer chalets in their backyard lawn (the more affluent families) with almost 1200sm of landspace in most cases.

I would suggest, to be free from any obligations, to check out the hotel catering chain called VanDer Valk Motels. They have several located on the very outskirts of Breda, like one I know in Princeville by Prinsenbeek that might assist your needs under special arrangements. Here is their direct tel & fax details and a feedback in English from a confident guest among many who had only appraisals for their stay there. Btw, I know the location is just under 20 minutes of walking to the centre of the city in Breda.

Hotel Princeville
Princenhagelaan 5
4813 DA Breda
T: +31 (0)76 522 60 55
F: +31 (0)76 520 38 70

Guest Feedback: "Excellent hotel friendly staff and a good location. I spent 7 months at the Princeville through my work and wld recommend it to anyone passing through the area." - Mr Rich L.

I hope your stay will be a memorable one for you both while I am heading for Sydney, Australia for our 3rd Honeymoon trip in September on our 28th Wedding Anniversary. :)

Dear Gail,

Expats.nl is a good website to use to find rentals, leases and for sale property. Good luck and enjoy your time back in your husband's home country!

Dear Gail, I've returned from South Korea. I was just wondering if you already found a place to stay in Breda, otherwise I can ask around for you. I presume it has to be furnished, right? And I would be delighted to show you around my beautiful hometown. Let's stay in toutch! Cheers! Eva

hi Gail, its just over a month now and can it be assumed you are already in Breda or somrwhere in close proximity to the center? Before I leave for a cruise-drive next week in southern Spain, I just want to wish you both a wonderful time in our country and let us know how you both are managing so far... ATB and if you like modelling by a grand scale... come up to The Hague on Saturday 13th June and witness the unique spectacle to be held as the longest catwalk taking place in town... by 200 models on the red carpet that is estimated to be 3-4 kms long!!! Don't miss it, be there by noon. :))
