Hello , where are you going to stay in Croatia . Croatia is not so small like it seems to I would say like this . Start with Dubrovnik and see the old town and the city walls , day two , go to visit Split if you go by bus and see there the palace of Diocletian and the church of St. Dominus (Sveti Duje) and travel further to Å ibenik to see that town . Day three. Go to Zadar and see the Saint Donat church , the sea organs and the pozdrav sunce what should be translated like the greeting of the sun. Day four: Go to the Plitvice lakes and visit the national park with the famous waterfalls . Day five and six . The capital Zagreb where you can see a little bit of everything. With that program you should see about the most different things what Croatia can offer.
If you had only one town in mind tell me and I will be happy to help you .
Enjoy.

Hi Monica,
I agree with you about taking it slow as 6 days is not enough to see the whole country. However, it can be enough if you organize yourself and plan ahead. National parks (Plitvice, Krka, Kornati, Paklenica) are a nice mix of coastal and continental Croatia that you can manage in 6 days. You can also visit Dalmatia in 6 days if you feel like traveling. Hope you enjoy!

If it is Dubrovnik the town you would like to visit as you have answered Solange, the closest town to combine your journey with would be Split. It takes only 4h to Split by bus. You can also travel by ship but it takes a bit longer app.7h. Being at Split an interesting thing to do would be making a day trip to islands nearby, Hvar or Brac, or to the little medieval town on the land called Trogir ( a must see is the Trogir cathedral and its portal from 13th ct....www.trogir-online.com). A whole town is protected by UNESCO. Just plan your time really carefully cause Split might leave you without breath.
It is possible to do the same thing in Dubrovnik...i.e visiting the Elaphite islands situated few miles away. Perhaps the island of Lopud and it's beach SUNJ..the most beautiful one on the most southern part of Croatia. Or visiting the island of Sipan and discover the 16th ct. summer residences of former Dubrovnik aristocracy(open for public), 16th ct. church-fortress and many other sacral monuments. It is possible to combine a visit to all Elaphite islands in one day thanks to a well organised ship connections. A tip...doing a three island cruise is a good idea too, it is offered in every corner in Dubrovnik.
If you are a nature freak do visit the island of Mljet(Odisey's island/..www.mljet.hr), the national park with the lake and the benedictine monastery on the islet in the middle of it. You would really discover the untouched nature there.
Having a peak on the town Korcula( Marco Polo's birth city/...www.korculainfo.com), at Korcula island you would discover another Dubrovnik, just a miniature one.
When it comes about gastronomy in Dubrovnik area...of course fish is the main dish in local restaurants but I would highly recommend you to visit Konavle and the restaurant "Konavoski Dvori" situated on the river. Check more under
www.esculap-teo.hr/restaurant_konavoski_dvori.html. The food there is 100% prepared on the traditional way, hundred years old. Day trips to this restaurant are organised by every tour.agency in Dbk.
Oh yes, I've almost forgotten..to reach all of theese islands both in Split and Dubrovnik area use JADROLINIJA AGENCY. It takes app. 45min sailing to reach most of them, except to KORCULA- 2h. This agency has frequent connections to all of them. Find sailing schedule under www.jadrolinija.hr
Also for Dubrovnik area, islands Sipan, Mljet & Korcula you can use G&V line...schedule under www.gv-line.hr/index.php?lang=E...they have sort of a speed boats, a catamarans..
Hope that this information has helped you. Enjoy your stay in Croatia.

As I can see you already has enough holiday options for your first visit to Croatia. However don't forget on Istra - biggest Croatian peninsula with towns such as Pula with famous Rome amphitheater from 1. ct. BC, PoreÄ with Eupharisiana - basilica from 6 ct.; the both of them on UNESCO list of a world heritage... continental part of peninsula with picturesque villages , fabulous views, ideal for your kind of 'slow' holiday. Trakking, bycicling, running, walking off the beaten roads....magic mixture of nature and history.
Well connected with other parts of Croatia with highway and modern roads, Istra offer you an ideal start for your holiday :)
Hope keep in touch!

Hi,
I would recommend to visit the south of Croatia. You could stay for one night in Dubrovnik, visit the Old town and the city walls. From Dubrovnik you could directly go to the island of Mljet, visit the Lakes in the National park. From Mljet there is a ferry boat to the peninsula of Peljesac, where you should visit Ston, Mali Ston and Orebic. From Orebic you can take a passenger boat to the island of Korcula, from Korcula to the island of Hvar and afterwards to Split. This might be enough for a 6-day summer tour in Croatia. Welcome!

If you won't to have slow vacation Dubrovnik is perfect for that . The town has a lot to offer so let's say in the morning sightseeing and the afternoon sun , beach and sea. Go and see the little but very beautiful island of Lokrum with the botanical garden and just enjoy nature also there you can swim . A nice nearby Town is Split (about 4 hours by bus ) Or the island KorÄula with the old town . Over there you can go by boat . A nice trip of about 3 hours , visit the old town , have a snack , Take the little boat to the peninsula Peljesac where you can take the locale bus back to Dubrovnik.
There are so much possibility's overhere.

Hi Monica !!
Well, as many of my collegues have told you already about all the possibilities to see in Croata, I would like to give my personal opinion...
June is an ideal season to travel, not only to Croatia but any summer place... anyway... I would really reccomend you not to stay only at one place in Croatia...
If you arrive in Zagreb, you might as well see its nightlife and from there down along the coast of the adriatic... good to see: Zadar, Trogir, Split (there you should stay a night at least) then to the top of the top, the must-see in Croatia: Dubrovnik...
Enjoy...
