A detail highlight on activities will saturate this info box. Google on Amsterdam and during October, it has to be careful with clothings for the children as many do become susceptible to temp changes resulting to flu and strange chills and children are the most vulnerable. Yes, Dutch families always have fun, simple leisure (current economy is a strain for most families) and public theme parks can be a popular venue at that time. Have fun and let the children enjoy Dutch thrills... ATB... ;)

Hi!
There are loads of fun things to do with toddelers.
1. Artis, a great zoo in the middle of the town.
2. NeMo --> just check out their site for what happens there
3. Near NeMo there is an old dutch sailingship. It's a copy of the ships that explored the easts and the west in the 16th century and there are actors who play the roles of the crew. Very nice.
4. Anne frank house if you want to give the trip a more serious touch
And furthermore, strolling around in town.
Enjoy!

Of course Artis is a must. Renting bikes with seats for the kids won't be a problem as well (macbikes). The goat farm in the Amsterdamsebos is great fun. There are as well many playgrounds in the city. In the Vondelpark for example. If you are looking for an hotel, the youth hostel in the Vondelpark offers small rooms that are excellent for a family. On wednesday at lunch time there is usually a lunch concert in the "Concertgebouw" if your kids love music it's a very nice experience, it's from 12.30 until 1. Not long but still very impressive and free. If you sit next to an exit you can always leave quietly if you need to. On Wednesday afternoon, kids do not have school. So that means that everywhere in the city there are activities for them, also in Museums (usually for 5 years old and up). Anyway, if the weather is good, there's enough things to do with kids in Amsterdam. If the weather is bad, the Zuiderbad (020 678 1390)is a good place to be, it's a very nice swimming pool with a shallow area (one had to verify the schedule before going). If your kids like trams, there's the old museum tram that rides on Sundays. It's great fun and you'll see a hidden part of Amsterdam, it's not commercial, people working there are volunteers, passionate and friendly people. (020 673 7538)www.museumtram.nl.
Amstelpark is also a great place for you and the kids. It's big and you can even see one of the windmills of Amsterdam up close. Kids will love it. There's a little train riding in the park. Enjoy!

In Rijkmuseum (royal museum )which is situated right in the centre on museum square( museum plein) there is an exibition of dolls houses- a lot of fun for kids and if you are lucky to get a guide she will tell about the story of these dolls in a funny way. besides, there is a playground by the museum ( wings and wooden horses)just on the corner to the right from rijkmuseum is zwembad( swimming pool)- it costs just 3 euros per day and you can have fun there too. all this is just nearby in one place.(museumplein) Nemo is good for kids who are older than 7 and already have some knowledge in basic chemistry, phisics, science, because it's a science museum. There is also great place Madurodam - it's situated in the Haque( just 30 minutes by train from Amsterdam ) where whole Holland is in miniature( with small houses and roads). Might be also fun to see.if i'm not mistaken there is also a aquamuseum in the hague. activities depend on the age of your toddlers??.. I live in Amsterdam and babysit 5 and 7 years old two girls. feel free to ask any questions. I'm sure there are some playcentres where you can be with kids under roof if the weather is bad( raining. I don't know where exactly there are, but can ask if you need:)

Well depend on what age your children have, but otherwise I would go to 'NEMO' which is a kind of museum and science centre but very fun for kids to go to, because it's very interactive, I liked it very much when I went there as a child. (http://www.e-nemo.nl/en/)
An other option may be the National Maritime Museum, where they have also a old VOC ship outside which you can visit, and could be fun for the kids too. (http://www.scheepvaartmuseum.nl/english)
A canal boat ride, they probably will enjoy also.
You might, depending on the ages and interest as well, visit a soccer match of Ajax.

I am a single guy and the one thing that stands out about Holland is that it is child oriented. I know the "red-light" gets all the attention, but I am constantly amazed by the tolerance and acceptance of children at any and all activities. Just dont let them watch Nickelodeon after 10 o'clock.

In amsterdam it'sbeen said before. Artis. But think about just outside the capital, the Zaanse Schans (www.zaanseschans.nl - pages also in English). A day (or half a day) of typical Dutch things. Wooden Shoes factory, cheese farm, windmills. How lovely is that????

Hmm, toddlers. My sons enjoyed Nemo and Artis Zoo. Plus they also enjoyed hamming it up with the wax figures at Madam Tussauds. At the Rijksmuseum, the toddlers might be able to join Gordon the Warden on a hunt for 5 works of art. In the Museum of bags and Purses, there is also a hunt for certain objects particularly created for young children, while mothers go and enjoy the wonderful bags on display.
The Van Gogh Museum also has treasure hunt for kids and coloring pages to keep them busy. Who knows, maybe they can discover their talent among the wonderful paintings of Vincent!
