El sunzal is the most famous one, it is in the Puerto de La Libertad zone, around this beach there are some other beaches not as famous and crowded but as good on waves, these could be "El Zonte, Palmarsito, etc"

Sunsal Beach is an excellent choice, it is considered one of the best sites not just in El Salvador but in the world, you can learn more from it going to this website: http://www.glissers.com/Accommodation/SURF_HOTEL_AND_VILLAS__SUNZAL_BEACH.html

You can also visit playa las flores, in San Miguel, El Salvador, it is a great surfing location and it is far from the noise of the city. There is a great resort with all the kind of accomodations. There is information for picking up from airport and general info here: http://www.wavehunters.com/lasfloressurfclub/

So, good luck, have fun in El Salvador. If you need more info, do not hesitate to request for it.

The surf season in EL Salvador is almost year round. The best months are from March to October. September is rainy and sometimes conditions are not favorable but there are some big waves. November and December the wave average is 3ยด to 5ยด with a couple of 6ยด to 8ยด swells very clean, January and February the waves are very small but clean, very good for learning, if thereโ€™s a 3 feet swell or more the surf will be great.

El Sunzal is probably the most famous place. You could also try Punta Roca and El Tunco. All these places are located in La Libertad which is between 15 and 20 miles from San Salvador. There are many people that do surfing in this area, so you'll enjoy it and meet people from different places.

I would recommend you: El Sunzal beach. There are small hotels where you could stay during your days at there, but would be better if you stay in a hotel in San Salvador and travel to the beach every time you desire. Why? Because during the nights is better the feeling in San Salvador.

But remember, donยดt forget to visit other beaches like CUCO in San Miguel (maybe the most beautifull beach in the country) El Espino in Usulutan, Playas Negras, El Tamarindo a very calm beach like a pool.

Addittional information you would need, please contact me: valladaresjaime@hotmail.com It would be a pleasure to help you.

Wellcome to our country!!!

Definetely you must go to El Sunzal which is located in La Libertad. If you go this week you will find it a bit crowded since we are on holiday season but next week all those waves can be almost yours to do surfing. I hope you have a great time while staying here.

Hi!

You should do a little trip to La Libertad, there are plenty of spots there, Punta Roca, El Sunzal, in the left side of El Tunco it gets good too, El Zonte... and if we follow de coastline we should get more. Every spot is kind of near of each other.

I went to El Sunzal last sunday to get some waves... they were little, but I always got great fun! You should check some forecast before going to see how much stars will be that day.

The best place is "El Zunzal" It's close to the city or the airport with pretty good places to stay and very affordable. You will also find surfboards to rent in case you don't want to travel with yours. They offer pretty good food and beer is cheap. Sunset is just awsome and you cannot miss it

Best web portal for those planning to Surf in El Salvador

http://www.globalsurfers.com/country_details.cfm?land=El%20Salvador

The best web portal reference around for traveling around all of El Salvador on a budget is www.theotherelsalvador.com/
with lots of 'enlaces' (links)the site is geared to budget and moderate travelers and is not just aimed at upscales visitors staying in resort hotels. May begins teh low season, rainy season here, also the season for surfing, answers from the other "experts" are excellent, I live in El Salvador and work in rural cultural and ecotourism (not surfing, not the beach)and our non profit (sin fines de lucro)organization now offers a hostel for overnight stays at the Rain Forest in Cinquera, 18 km. north of colonial town of Suchitoto visit www.geocities.com/welcome_to_elsalvador/

Sunzal, Punta Roca ( in Puerto de la Libertad), and San Diego with the exception that there strong currents, undertoes and waves, which makes the experience more intense but at the same time dangerous (which might be exactly what you are looking for).

Surfing is one of the best attractions of El Salvador with dozens of ideal places along the coast. You can find at least 19 quality places to practice such sport, among them Conchalio Beach, El Cocal, San Blas, El Palmarcito, El Zonte, El Tunco, adn El Sunzal.
At the east side, Playa las Flores, Punta Mango, Playas Negras, and La Ventana near the Gulf of Fonseca, have waves in a natural state atmosphere and a the west , Acajutla and Los Cobanos. The best time to surf is from March to December.

The best place is Punta Roca. However, this depends on your skill level. Punta Roca in La Libertad is a spot for more experienced surfers. Zunzal, which is near by is more friendly for begginiers.
