Hello ,
To visit Dubrovnik you are far but with the new road what we have you can come here in only a few hours . Maybe you can make a 2 day trip of it and on the way visit Zadar , Å ibenik and Split . Also you have airplanes going from Zagreb to Dubrovnik daily.
We have from Dubrovnik an 1 day excursion to Zagreb and Plitvice. By plain to Zagreb , having sightseeing there and then by bus to the Plitvice lakes and in the evening back by plain to Dubrovnik . so it is possible to visit Dubrovnik also from Zagreb if you like it and I have to say that Dubrovnik really is worth seeing.
Think about it . Whatever you choose enjoy your staying in Zagreb and maybe Dubrovnik.

As a capital of Croatia, Zagreb is on a perfect spot for starting the vacation. From here you can visit our beautiful country very easily by car, bus, train or plane. Most possibilities and freedom you'll have if you go around by car. Biggest Croatian peninsula Istra with many famous places on the coast as PoreÄ, Rovinj, Pula, Opatija is the nearest. To experience the most of Istra don't skip to visit it's inland and picturesque ancient towns ascend on the peaks of the hills: Motovun, Labin or Hum - the smallest town in the world according to Guinness book of world records. While you are there don't miss to try excellent local home made wine!
Down on the south, following a coast, you can expand your adventure and discover other magic and beautiful areas, towns or island. If your adventure pass Å ibenik (one of UNESCO towns in Croatia) or nearby places as national parks - please don't hesitate to contact me, your local expert:)

Hi!
You can visit Rijeka - it's only 2h from zagreb (bus is going every hour). After visiting Rijeka you can go with catamaran (fast boat) to Novalja (on island pag) - the boat stops also on the island rab. Boat goes once a day at 17h. Novalja is great party place! From Novalja you can visit city of Pag and Zadar (an hour away) on the mainland.

Hi Dear,
As some of my collegues allready answered you there are many places to visit on the Adriatic sea...
But then again... i would like to give you my opinion about what is really worthy to visit in Croatia...
After your stay in Zagreb i could suggest you to make a few days trip ALONG the coastline of Croatia, for example going through the National Park of Plitvice Lakes (one night there) to Zadar, Å ibenik, Trogir, Split (maybe you could stay one night there) then to get to Dubrovnik that is really the MUST SEE in Croatia. On the other side as you say that is far away from Zagreb... well there is a very good connection by plane from Zagreb to Dubrovnik (good daily schedule) and you are there in less than an hour for a reasonable price...
It all depends on what your interests are, how old are you, how long you plan to stay and at what time in summer do you plan to come over... cause in Croatia there is really almost everything to be found, you might just ask a little more preciselly what do you consider interesting (nature, museums, night-life, etc)...
In any case i hope this little advice helps you and i wish you a nice stay in Croatia... enjoy

Dubrovnik is nice to see if you are wanting a historical trip, but in my opinion there are a lot of other nice places near Zagreb. I would recommend Plitvice Lakes, Kornati Islands, Pula. The istria region is absolutely gorgeous as are all the islands across the Adriatic

Hi
I must say it is quite a trip from Zagreb to Dubrovnik but if you go by car or bus it's realy worth it.
I came yesterday back from Velika Gorica near Zagreb and came back home by car using the "old" road - it was exausting but realy nice.
But if your coming in the middle of summer then I wouldn't recomend Dubrovnik - to many tourists and travelers from all over the world - you wouldn't get a chance to see it properly.
There are many beautiful places near or not to far from Zagreb.
Like the Istria region - it's all beautiful so wherever you go there you can realy enjoy in it.
Then the islands - beautiful too - I would recomend Kornati and it's National park
Then The Plitvica Lakes National Park and incredible too.
Then Krka, the island of Pag or if you come to Dubrovnik the islands near Dubrovnik like Lopud, KorÄula, and the Elafite islands.
No matter where you decide to go in Croatia you'll enjoy yourself - there are many things to see and visit so relax.
Enjoy!!!

Hi there,
I am not sure for how long are you staying but you can't really go wrong with any location on Adriatic sea. Where ever you go there is a really great historic city and within its reach there is at least one national park. During the summer through whole of Adriatic cost you can find festivals, clubs and parties and street events.
I do recommenced to Split, Dalmatia . Some information about travel offer in that area you can check out on www.maddox.hr
Enjoy !

Hi! Well, Dubrovnik is almost the farthest and really beautiful, but you can also come to Zadar and than along the Dalmatian coast and islands, spectacular (I'm a fan of Dalmatia!)! But it's also very nice to visit Kvarner's islands like Krk, Rab, Cres, Lošinj...

I suggest you realy nice and beautiful place.Takes only two hours from Zagreb by bus and you are at the Adriatic sea.
This municipality represents the “gates of Kvarner†and is home to the railway station built in the year 1873, the construction of which enabled the tourism development of the Opatija Riviera. Two border crossings, Rupa and Pasjak and the E65 highway towards Trieste and Ljubljana connect Kvarner with Slovenia, Italy, Austria and make the entire region an easily accessible tourism destination.Today, Matulji has over ten thousand residents in 23 settlements, and the increasing development of trades and crafts, despite the fact that the majority of the inhabitants are involved in tourism by renting out rooms and apartments in their homes. This is where Kvarner and the mountainous inland meet, thus ensuring a good night’s sleep for guests in the cool summer nights. Guests are invited to go bicycle riding, walking and hiking in Lisina Forest Park, UÄka Mountain, Veprinac or nearby Kastav. The sea is less than 2 kilometers away.
Opatija
The First Ladyâ€, “Pearl of the Adriaticâ€,"Sankt Jakobi", "Abbazia", "Old dame", “Queen of Tourismâ€â€“ these are just a some of the names given to Opatija. Guarded by a backdrop of densely-wooded hills, it sits where the Istrian peninsula joins the Kvarner Riviera.Escaping Vienna's winter chill, the Hapsburg nobility of the Austro-Hungarian Empire set the fashion more then 160 years ago. Drawn by the mild microclimate, Opatija's glittering guest list included crowned heads, composers, novelists, and other celebrities of the day. They flocked here to take in the sea air, revive their health in hot baths, cold baths, and the sanatorium; and to dance or gamble until dawn. Other distinguished visitors included Chekhov, Puccini, and Gustav Mahler - who came to convalesce here after a case of tonsillitis. James Joyce regularly took tea on the Hotel Imperial's terrace. Isadora Duncan danced to the swaying fronds of a palm tree outside her balcony in the Villa Amalia, an annex of today's Hotel Kvarner. The ideal way to work up an appetite for a leisurely al fresco lunch is a walk along Opatija's promenade-the Lungomare, much of its length shaded by chestnut and laurel trees. Handily placed benches invite you to sit and contemplate the Adriatic where the islands of Cres and Krk loom in the shimmering blue of Kvarner bay.
Opatija retains an air of dowager duchess opulence: grand hotels with crystal chandelier ballrooms; Viennese-style pastries slathered in cream; visitors sporting old-fashioned finery. Its beauty and elegance are passed on to each guest, and many tourists keep returning every year for the rest of their lives, claiming that they simply feel wonderful in this place of elegance, wellness and natural beauty.
MošćeniÄka Draga
The number of inhabitants in the winter, is just under 500, increases several fold in the summer months, as this town lives for and from tourism. Just 15 kilometers from Opatija, this is the sight of one of the most beautiful pebble beaches on the Adriatic Sea. Even residents from the other maritime towns frequently travel the few kilometers to MošćeniÄka Draga to spend the day on this exceptional natural beach. Guests will be greeted with unforgettably warm hospitality in the two hotels, campground and numerous private villas and homes. MošćeniÄka Draga is the ideal destination for those wanting to become better acquainted with their hosts while on vacation. Come to the port in the early morning to meet the fishing boats, like back in the days when this town developed as the harbor for nearby Mošćenice.
Lovran
This significant tourism destination began to develop virtually the same time as Opatija. This formerly maritime oriented town just 7 kilometers west of Opatija today is the boutique destination on the Riviera, with a number of exclusive and renovated villas dating back to the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, such as the Villas Frapart, Astra, Eugenija, Magnolija and Blankenstein. Lovran is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the whole of the Opatija Riviera. The town square, with its Romanesque bell tower and row of Baroque houses, the parish church, the small Romanesque church by the sea … are but a segment of the historical monuments which constitute the ancient and cultural values of Lovran and which give a very special atmosphere to this small Mediterranean town. In this exceptional crossing of past and present, and the coming together of the sea and mountains, the inland region behind Lovran is also developing. Here, rural tourism is nurtured, based on delicious autochthonous products such as chestnuts, asparagus and cherries. With the two city beaches Peharovo and Kvarner, there are a number of smaller beaches and sun tanning areas, and the well known Orthopedic Clinic is situated in Lovran, reminding us of the tradition of health care tourism.

If you do not have much time, visit Dubrovnik by plane. Croatia Airlines offers cheap tickets from Zagreb to Dubrovnik, but you should book the flight asap.

It is far if you are driving, it takes several hours, but it is only 45 minutes away by plane, so it can be done!
If not, nearest to Zagreb, really worth seeing if you love nature are Plitvice lakes. The area of Split is not too far and is nice, 3 hours drive and similar with Istria ( a lot of nice cities to visit-like poreÄ or Rovinj).

Croatian coast is so interesting and so beautiful that it is hard to say where should you go... You have Dalmatia which is quite far from Zagreb and you have Istra. If you are visiting Croatia for the first time you can start with Zagreb and Istra. It is easy to get from Zagreb to Pula by plane or by bus.
In Istra you should visit Rovinj, PreÄ, Pula, Motovun...
We have great history and cultural hertrige, lots of greenery and great beaches!!!
If you have any more questions just write! I can help you to arrange accomodation, tour plan, everything.
Greetings from little place near Rovinj - Dva Baladura (Istra, Pilkovići)

Hi! Sorry i didn't reply sooner. Now it's all said already, so it's going to be up to you to decide what to see. We are all a little bit subjective, but a fact is that Croatia is really beutifull country. I think you will like every part of the country that you decide to visit. Since you're coming to Zagreb first, you can always contact me through mail or cell phone, and we can meet up for a drink. Maybe you'll get a better picture once you're already in Croatia.
Untill than, all the best.

I'm in Zadar at the moment and loving it. You can access easily at least 3 National parks and lots of other places to see. Good connections with Zagreb and the rest of south Croatia, all the way to Dubrovnik and beyond.

You must come to Dalmatia - split and south. The sea is the cleanest and most blue. You can visit the islands, and find in expensive places to stay right on the sea front. People are friendly, you can be sporty - hiking, rafting, water sports as well a relaxing and doing music.

Hello,
Depending on your will to travel, I'd say that Dubrovnik is a definite must! Especially if you are the first time in Croatia. Take a plane or a car. By car, new highway will take you almost 85% of the way. Than, if you have time, take a coastal drive back to Zagreb and visit Ston, Makarska, Omiš, Split, Trogir, Šibenik, Zadar, Novigrad, Senj, Rijeka and Opatija. From Opatija to Zagreb it will take some 2.5 hrs drive.
If you have just one day to spare, then go to Opatija, it is beautiful place.
