Hi Sandy,
Duesseldorf is located about 30 min. north of Cologne by train. I know that D-Dorf is famed for their very active "Altstadt" (Old downtown) with an incredible number of pubs, clubs and bars. It is boasted as the longest bar in the world. They have a large cinema located at the main train station and they show movies there in their original version (not synchronized like their TV shows)

Being centrally located, you can reach other fun destinations relatively quickly from D-Dorf. Paris or Berlin can be reached within 4-5 hours by train. Amsterdam and Brussels are only around 2 hours by train, and you can grab flights to the UK or Ireland for around €150 most of the time.

There are numerous excursions you can take on weekends such as Rhine cruises or trips to smaller quaint villages in the surround areas.

Cologne is another great source for activities.
In Cologne we perform Hollywood's Comedy Night" once per month featuring English stand-up comedy with International comedians. Check out http://ComedyNights.de .

There are also many fun places to see and things to do in Cologne/Koeln as well. If it sounds interesting check out my profile for other tour options.

Hope this helps. Cheers, Smiles and Laughs,
Johnny

Look at the Volkshochschule (adult continuing education center): http://www.duesseldorf.de/vhs/ I have to admit I haven't looked at Duesseldorf's selection of classes yet, but the one in my city of less than 80,000 has almost anything you could ever want to do (including lots of foreign language classes, sports, cooking, day trips...) and classes aren't too expensive. Because Duesseldorf is so much bigger, I would imagine that the selection of classes is even better. I usually take 1-2 classes just to get out of the house more and meet more people.

Hi Sandy,

welcome to Düsseldorf!
Check out www.asg-bildungsforum.de and www.sprachcaffe-duesseldorf.de for Spanish classes. The Sprachcaffe has a very international clientele and quite small classes.

Take care,
Sabine
