Dear Peter;
You didn't say which country you were coming from.
There are a number of excellent resorts in Mauritius from 5 Star plus down. Depends upon yr budget.
First two weeks of December are lower season and you should get good package deals. Later is Peak. The weather will be summer but not the hottest months. Esat coast should be fresher.I suggest you contact my good friend Mr. Clency Noyaux who is a reasonably priced Inbound Tour Operator and can organise everything for you...even the reenactment of your wedding on the beach!! Hi Peter.
Thanks for inquiring and Congrats to you and your wife for your Wedding. You chose a great destination for your honey moon. You can easily access the island on any International Flights and Emirate Airlines usually offer cheaper rates. Northern and Western Coast are best during December time as it is the Sunset Coasts. But it will be peak season so you better make early reservation as for your accommodation and for a car too. Depending on your budget you can opt from 5 Star hotels rooms to fully furnished affordable bungalows steps away from the beach. Summer season is between end of October till end of April. So be prepared to sunny days. Sun creams and Anti mosquitoes creams recommended. Depending on where you originate from, you might find air humidity rate slightly uncomfortable but this can easily be overcommed by drinking lots of water or beer depending on taste. We are a left hand driven country. Great sight seeing roads and easy access to most of towns and villages. Public transport are secure and relatively cheap. Great Shopping Malls all over the Island. Main language is Creole but we do easily chat in English, French and or Italian amongst other languages. Variety of dishes to choose from in very good Restaurants, Fast foods and Takeaways too. Local Currency is the Mauritian Rupee. Night life not bad too. Perfect blend to have a sun bathed relaxed, memorable, affordable honey moon and joyous vacation.
Feel free to ask any questions. Cheers and Regards Yan.

May be i shall ask you to be give more details about you like, your budget and your wants .With these information we shall be in a better position to advise you.

Dear Peter

I need more information. If you want to go out for shopping and night club or simply to meet mauritian the north is appropriate as it is the only place where there is a night life. But if you want to stay cool in a resort and go out by orginized tours then there is a lot of resorts. But all this depends upon your budget.

Dear Peter,
It is nice that you are planning to visit Mauritius for your honeymoon. It all depends what you wish to do and your budget. I'll suggest the east coast near to Ile aux Cerfs or the south (Bel Ombre) personally I like Heritage which is a very nice hotel for Honeymooners. You are near to all tourist attractions and breathtaking night tours with the moonlight Tyrollien (Hochseile gleiden), dolphin watching, seven coloured earth, Valley of 26 colours, Vanille crodcodile park, Rochester falls. You also find typical creole restaurant. You can easily mix with locals who are always ready to help and assist you with a broad smile.
December is a very nice period, sunny all day except if you don't have a cyclone to disturb your plans. You will have nice flowers for decoration. The temperature varies between 28 to 32 degrees. Port Louis for example is always warm and humid but the local market and the Blue Penny Museum is a must. Bring most cotton clothes. Don't bring many clothes along because you have good bargain in mauritius for shirts , T-shirt and clothes in cotton.

hello there. Actually it will be better in the North (eg: Grand Baie) as you can enjoy a very nice night life (Pubs, various types of restaurants, night clubs). I would suggest to check www.villa-banyan.com. You can have very high quality and affordable types of accomodation (self catered bungalows) It's located in Grand Gaube, at not even 15 minutes by car from Grand Baie.
Cheers

First of all, I would have to know your budged and the exact dates of your honeymoon in order to advise you on a resort. Mauritius has low budget resorts but, as well, the highest density of 5 star resorts per m2 in the world. December is divided in 2 concerning package prices. There is another possibility then resorts which is the rental of a individual villa or bungalow with housekeeper and cook. This option is often less expensive than a resort and your privacy will be guaranteed.
Concerning the beaches, you have lovely white sand beaches with coconut trees in the north (Grand Bay, Pereybere, Trou aux Biches, Pointe au Canonnier). The West Coast most famous beaches are Flic-en-Flac ,Tamarin, Pointe au Piment, Balaclava, Bay du Tombeau. Most of them are boarded rather with pine trees and the shallow water has a lot of coral which is not really nice for walking in the water. Tamarin has a beach where waves are coming up to the shore because of a hole in the surrounding reef, therefore ideal for surfing.
The southern tip of the Island (the Morne) has a nice panorama and some beautiful resorts such as Le Paradis with a famous golf course.
The East Coast has the greatest variety of beaches ranging from sandy, long stretched beaches (e.g. Grand Gaube, Trou d’Eau d’Ouce) to rocky wild beaches with high waves (Lafayette). Near Mahebourg in the South-East there is a natural resort called Blue Lagoon with mangroves and a variety of very rare forms of coral (ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving). On the East Coast you’ll find the highest concentration of high class resorts such as St. Gerant, Prince Maurice, Belle Mare and Touessrock.
Please let me know the details and your preferences in order to give you more specific advice.

hello Peter,

Mauritius can be divided into four parts, N, E, W,S
N- The beaches are a mixture of wild and clean. wild I mean bushy and has not been cleaned up.
You have clear views of small islands just off the coast.
The northern area has been designed for mass tourism with its designer shops, hotels and night clubs.
E- Is windy and wild. very picturesque. very natural beaches that are still great to swim in. Great hotels near two small islands. best for watersports. towns are rurban style.
W- cleaned up for mass tourism. clear waters for swimming. there lacks a natural feel to it. urban feel to the area.
south- very beautiful views with a wild feel. rural towns. not great for swimming as there are cliffs etc.

This is a general guide to the beaches and vicinity of the coast.

If you want a beach wedding then you must consider: sunlight and wind.
west coast less windy than east coast.
if you want a sunshine/sunrise wedding then go to the east.
if you want a sunset wedding then the west is best.

December is a great period in mauritius with a festive spirit around, weather is sunny, dry, and temperature ranges from warm to hot.

Where to stay? That depends on how you plan to spend your honeymoon. five star hotels are widely advertised over the web. get in touch with their communications department and discuss the types of extras you can get hold of.

In bound tourism is also great but it is not practical for a honeymoon.
If you want to hang around in the island then do so by buses and taxis.

in my opinion,
a sunset honeymoon in the west.
then stay at a five star hotel on the east coast.
the hotel will organise outings in the country.

enjoy

Hi! Firstly it would be good to state where you're from. With regards to your question, I don't live in Mauritius but in Rodrigues which is a dependancy of Mauritius but is an outer island at some 560km from Mauritius. If you want to have your stay here I can help as it is a highly appreciated destination for honeymooners. It is very calm with little tourists and lot of white sandy beaches all around the island. There are also good hotels that give a very personal treatment to clients as the institution even if 4* are not very large. There are also other types of accomodation that are perfect for honeymooners. Wish you could make a jump here too as I'm sure you'll be delighted... You have loads of good resorts in the North , Royal beach, merville beach , trou aux biches hotel..
If you want a coast where you will have everything mostly at hand ( 2-3mins by car ) i suggest north coast. And it has the nicest beach of whole mauritius which is pereybere beach for me. You can also try Mont choisy beach which is very much larger and longer than pereybere beach. You also have the main village on the coast at Grand baie, where you will have find all the plans for your holidays in Mauritius. cheers.

Hi Peter,

Fisrt of all I'd like to congratulate you and your wife on your wedding. There are several resorts in Mauritius depending on your choice and budget. However, since you are coming for your honeymoon, I'd like to suggest that you take a bungalow at Pereybere which is locatedin the northe of the Island. The bungalow consist if a TV set, air conditioned room and also a swimming pool. The bungalow is not far from the beach where you are enjoy the Sun Sea and Sand by laying on the beach for a sun bath. However the bungalow is very nice and beautiful for couple. There is also security guard outside the bungalow so no worry about security. The climate at Perebere during december will a bit hot as it will be in summer. You can chosen the best country and the best time to come to Mauritius. I can assure that you will definitely enjoy your stay in Mauritius. When coming to Mauritius I can come and pick you up at the airport and take you to the bungalow. Please visit my profile for more information. For you reservation please contact me on my e-mail add: coolguy_yas07@yahoo.com

Excellent idea, Touessrok Hotel in the east has earned the reputation of being the honey moon resort .It is a five star hotel.
Otherwise all hotels are of good standard with stunning beaches and sea.
December is a very hot month and the population will be in a festive mood

For your honeymoon, the region of Flic-En-Flac will be the best due to its large range of hotels of any class you desire, sandy beaches, sunny weather and wonderful lagoon. It's found in the west of Mauritius and the weather is warm and very comfortable over there. It also has a great number of pubs... and everything is quite cheap although it is a touristic site. You have many 5-star hotels like (Hilton resort and spa, La pirogue, Coco beach...)
And as your are coming in December, you will benefit of the the Best climates and weather of Mauritius.
