Turists are used to be treated like turists,... in very few spots of the world they can feel relaxed like in Croatia (despite of a war suffered a few years ago), enjoying sun, sea and calm over all. Hard to believe, so close to central europe and still undiscovered.
Well, fun things to do are everywhere you go, just depends on what yo consider fun. As for the secrets i think every local has his own, still i think that a vacation on a motorbike along the coastline of croatia (from spot to spot, from island to island) could be something rare as well as some kind of robinson esperience, so close to the civilization but still isolated from the rest of the world... of course less rare things to do are many to be found like river rafting, sailing, hiking, biking, bungee jumping, paragliding, parasailing, adventure-camping, etc.
Not to mention that everywhere you can find a lonely spot to bathe or sunbathe, Croatia was among the pioneers of the nudism or nude-beaches.
On the coastline of the adriatic the nightlife is surely very lively and sipping some cocktails by the sea at a warm summernight can also be an unforgettable experience.
As i use to say: come and experience it because there are no words to describe it...

Dubrovnik is a lively city of Croatia and the popular things to do in Dubrovnik are sailing, fishing and day trips. This city offers plenty of attractions include Dubrovnik City Walls, Dubrovnik Synagogue, Ethnographic Museum, Lapad Bay and Lokrum Island and Elaphite islands.
Lokrum Island is one of the attractive islands of Croatia and especially kids like this island. Visiting Lokrum Island is one of the popular Dubrovnik things to do of every visitor. You can do easy day trip from Dubrovnik and the ferry ride takes 10mins to Lokrum Island. Just take a boat from Dubrovnik's Old Port and enjoy the magnificent view of Dubrovnik. In Lokrum, there are no hotels, stores or restaurants, so carry all neccessary things for your kids. Swim, sun and relax with more fun and explore the botanical garden, the remains of a Habsburg fortress & the wonderful beach of Lokrum. Have a happy Dubrovnik vacation, Best of luck!

Well, it is a "very wide" question and I can suggest you zillions of possibilities, it really depends on what you prefer: beautiful beaches at the most beautiful sea, richness and in many cases undiscovered historical sites, rich culture through the year, Zagreb - city of museums, Dubrovnik - one of the most beautiful medieval cities in the world, summer parties and cultural events, breathtaking nature with many possibilities for activities... Really, it's very hard to put it in one single message, but I definitely suggest Croatia for everyone!

Well we have a lot of things typical for locals But I think that most typical (surely in Dubrovnik ) is going for a walk on the Stradun (main street in the old own ) or in Uvala On Lapad peninsula and then after a little walk we sit on a terrace drink a coffee or beer and talk about what we have done or going to do or talk about people who are passing or who we know . Always there is someone who we know coming to sit with us and talk . A lot of tourist ask how locals can sit so long time and say that all terraces always are totally occupied . If there is no free place we make an extra walk to the end of the street and hope to find then an free spot.
Another thing what is typical that is playing picigin . That is a ball sport what people play while you are standing in the sea with your friends and try to hit a little ball and like that pass it to another player . The ball may not fall in the water .
Also when there is a important sport game on TV It may be football , waterpolo handball F1 it doesn't matter we like to come together and support of course with food and drinks .
For tourists we have a lot off things to . Scuba diving , we have lot of hidden bays for sunbaths , swimming , Island tours shore tours , museum trips . Almost for every type of person we can find something to do .

Croatia is country with a lot opportunity for great holidays. So, if you are open for robinson tourism, this can be great. Find some beautifull island on Croatian Adriatic coast( there is a lot of islands) where you can enjoy in clean, beautifull sea on some undiscovered, lonely beach. You can stay in fisherman house or something like that. You have places where you can go only by boat.
Or, you can sailling around with your friends. I can organise that for you ( for 6-10) people.
If you aren't for something like that I suggest you to stay in some private accomodation with nice hoast who can prepare you domestic food and offer great domestic wine, some home made bread("meat or occtoppus "peka" you must try that and some domestic prepaired fish...We have great food, but don't look for that in hotels. Maybe in some restorans. That great food you can try in Omiš, near Split, in Canyon of river Cetina. There you can experiance rafting and beautifull nature. There is place with restoran called "Radmanova mlinica".
Or if you are for some holistic holidays with yoga, treatments, meditation, you can also find that on some Islands.Ask me for more info .
Or if you are for some religion tourism I suggest you to go in Međugorje, near Makarska. This is holly place where Madonna pointed out and there come people all around the World.
It is realy magical place.
Village tourism with ridding horsees, or some adventure on Velebit( mountain).
In every case, don't stay on one place you have a lot to see in Croatia. You can seat in car and drive along coast.
If you need more, ask.
Enjoy your holidays in Croatia.

You should visit Split and go to famous sandy city beach 'BaÄvice' to play 'picigin' with locals - favorite one. The rules are very simple: group of players stay in a shallow sea in a circle and try to keep a very small 'picigin' ball as long is possible in the circulation between them. One can earn the points and that's important - when shows (up) different and unusual style of catching, throwing and passing a ball further. (Ball must not a fall down!) As better you present your skills the better chances are earn not only the points but the huge applause from the local girls sitting around :)
Don't miss it! Have a fun;)

Well, it depends on what you like to do. My idea of fun, especially in summer is nightlife in Split and islands nearby like Hvar or BraÄ (Bol) or Makarska riviera, with cocktails, good music to dance on and handsome guys, guys,guys... Parties last all night long and during the day you can accumulate energy on the beautiful beaches, heal yourself in the bluest sea, under the palm or a pine trees, so when the sun goes down you are ready to party again! Holidays don't last forever so you must take the best of it!

Well... since most of the people below replied like real tourist guides and by my opinion most stereotype, not local like which this service aims to be...
I will give three ideas :
1. If you are visiting Dalmatia in any case during spring season (late March and whole of April) - a fun thing to do would be to go pick some wild asparagus, it is quite calming experience and plus in a matter of several hours spent in nature, in close proximity of even major cities and towns, you got yourself a delicious and most healthy supper.
2.In my hometown try going to the Sea organs and bring some snacks and drinks with you and spent the whole day there until sun finally sets down... A sunset which by famous late director Alfred Hitchcock was pronounced as the most beautiful sunset he has ever seen. But the catch is to spend the whole day just listening to the music sounds that waves generate by raising and lowering the sea level through the organs... if it is summer feel free to bring your bikini or swimming pants with you. Don't mind the local authority's ban for swimming there, people from Zadar were swimming there for centuries and will still.
3. This one is for people who like to test domestic products. Go to the local green market and start sampling domestically produced moonshine called 'rakija', 'travarica', 'medica' or similar, and the trick is only to sample and not buy any until you get pretty tipsy, don't overdo it cause most stuff is potent, in the end out of courtesy if you really like something you've sampled go ahead and buy a bottle or two for your reliving the memory home with your family.
There you go!
Greetings

Whatever you do in Croatia, you have to visit Dubrovnik and see its beauty!
Comment by a Localyte from Omis, Croatia
Hi Nina, your answer is not a secret thing, however I don't mind as it seems to come straight from your heart.
Secret life is better found in what we call the Zagora (the hinterland).
Making "moonshine alcohol", in a small shed, after the wine is made, sitting on old chairs at a three legged table, while the alcohol drips, that's what I call secret.
And while the alcohol is cooking, we grill some good meat, cut some bread, drink the new wine and sing klapa songs.
But to join in this secret, you have to become friends with Locals.
However, and that is not a secret, becoming friends with Dalmatian is not difficult, as we like to share.
So, next time, enjoy superb towns like Dubrovnik, but for the real feel, the secret life you have to get going, up and over the mountains, into those hundreds of little valleys where life still is original, pure, simple but FANTASTIC !!!!

Answer 1
If you come in spring, by the way one of the best seasons !!!, stop in one of those many little valleys and pick some cherries from a tree.
Don't do it to stuff your pockets, but just to enjoy some sweet cherries straight from the tree.
And, but that is not a secret, try to talk with a local, and he'll give you a pound of his cherries, something to drink and some food, just for the fun of sharing.
Not speaking the language may seem a problem, but it's not !!!
Some german words, some english, some "hands and feet", "dobar dan", "kako si", "hvala", we don't ask much, as we're open minded, friendly and socialising people.
Come to the Zagora (the hinterland), and you'll experience the secret Dalmatia.
But that's not a secret anymore, cause I shared it with you on Localyte.
Answer 2
Locals in Dalmatia don't do things in secret, as we're open minded !
Dalmatians, especially in all those hidden valleys, are friendly, easily socialising and willing to share with any visitor, even those green men from Mars.
Coming from Mars (or any other planet), the best advise is to land in Dalmatia, somewhere between april and october, as the weather is mild, the life easy going and the Adriatic excellent to wash of the tired feeling of the trip.
And don't stay in all those beautifull ancient towns, marvelous as they are, but experience the real life in the Zagora, the land behind the coastal mountains.
Welcome stranger, being green or white, black or yellow, and if you have the "blues", we love to help you get over that too !
