Hi!!
All depends on what you are looking for or what you like. Punta del Este is the big tourist attraction / beach resort retreat in this part of South America. In my opinion ,is very nice but very expensive, but if you really want to see some beautiful beaches with less crowds visit Punta Diablo or Piriapolis. Cabo Polonio is also great, and really out of the way. To get to the beach there you have to ride through sand dunes on four wheel drive jeeps. There is no electricity and the accomodations can be quite rustic, but you can't beat the location for peaceful, beautiful beach retreat. It's also a good place to watch for whales.
In Montevideo, you have to visit the Mercado del Puerto, the most important gastronomic axis of the city and taste a cup of the typical Uruguayan drink, 'Medio-Medio'.
If you want to see a typical Uruguyan market, please visit the Biarritz open market on Saturday morning at Plaza Biarrits, or the Parque RodĂł open market and the Tristan Narvaja open market on Sunday morning.
And if you are a adventurous person you can practice Tamdem skydive, I really recomend you that do this. The most current, innovative method of introducing first time jumpers into the world of skydiving. You can practice Tandem Skydive in Punta del Este where the view is really amazing and you don't need a special training.
Regards,
Patricia

Coming from Montevideo, after crossing "El Potrero's stream", in the km. 115, 800 meters. away from the route toward the sea, the âInterbalneariaâ, where natural forests merge into ocean, is located the Naturist Beach of Chihuahua. At this place, where nudism is practiced for a long time, the "El Refugio" is situated. Their owners offer rooms with private bathroom to the friends of naturism, who will be able delight themselves inrich foods and homemade pastas.

Walking or biking La Rambla is a tipical Montevidean experience that tourist don't usually taste. It's all about the sensation of wind or sun on the face, the sound of waves and seagulls, the smell of the sea or the texture of sand.
At La Pedrera, the carnival it's an unique popular party, where everybody can join.
At Cabo Polonio, you can enjoy a paradise where tourist don't use to stay because of the acomodations. There you have to feel the place, and meet the duendes (they appear after the fifth day)...

Something that tourists rarely experience , some place off the beaten track right?. A couple of uears ago I visited Villa Serrana , it's a quaint and picturesque swiss-style little village set among rolling hills and crisscrossed by winding creeks . If being in contact with nature is what you're looking for this is the right place for you. Highly recommended

Every month of the year have special activities enjoyed by the majority of the uruguayans.
One approach has to do with vacations... summer vacations (dec to mar) enjoying water activities, mainly going to the balnearios... sea side beaches... we have a very extended coast, Te Rio Uruguay, then Rio de la Plata, and of course the Atlantic Ocean... Also many open air expresions of the pop during Carnival Performances (Murgas, Comparsas, etc)
Camping is a preferred activity during winter and spring seasons.
And, at any time gatering and enjoying an asado (open air barbacue) is a must.

During winter season there are a lot of activities to do.
For example Thermal Springs:
In the northeast region of Uruguay youâll find an extensive zone of thermal offers, a different alternative to recover your well-being and the quality of life enjoying Health Tourism.
Between the river and the prairies, this destination offers thermal springs with high curative properties that, in natural privileged environments, invite you to rest and relax taking thermal waters therapeutic treatments, against stress, for rejuvenation and beauty.
And other activities that I really recomend you in winter is the Rural del Prado. This event is the largest event cattle in Uruguay. Usually is made on september.
You will find here traditional activities, you can see the life style of the "Gaucho"(People that live in farm and that work with cattle). And of course that you will test the best barbacue of the world.

A must see attraction is soccer / football.
Don't miss the chance to do a tour of Estadio Centenario, where the first World Championship took place in 1930.
Our local derby is Nacional vs. Peñarol, it takes place couple of times in the year, but every weekend you have the chance to attend a match of the Uruguayan league in that stadium.

You can walk by the "rambla", kind of road by the seaside in Montevideo.
You can also go to diferent parks and if you're interested in arquitecture, a walk by the "ciudad vieja" neighbourhood is great.
Out of montevideo you should visit the seaside villages in "Rocha", known as "El Camino de las playas" (The Beaches Route) where Punta del Diablo, La Paloma, Santa teresa and Cabo Polonio are paradises with beautiful beaches, great surfing, nature everywhere and in summer, los of young people.

HI!
Are you fond of soccer (what we call "fĂștbol" here)?
An amusing thing to do would be to attend a soccer match on Saturda or Sunday afternoon. Besides the historical Centenatium Stadium there are plenty of fields all over Montevideo. The most important one is the Parque Central at La Blanqueda neighbourhood. Others: Franzini Stadium at Parque RodĂł, Troccoli Stadium at El Cerro, Parque Viera at El Prado. An unforgettable experience for sure!

hi
also, you can go to know the place where Carlos Gardel has born.
The townŽs name "Valle Edén" and it is in TacuaremboŽs state, it is in the center of the country. There is a museum with his name and isnŽt a place known by the tourist.
Other place that you can go and isnÂŽt known by the tourist is "Pozos Azules" is in Maldonado, near to Piriapolis and Punta del Este.
You must walk during 2 or 3 hours to arrive there. It is a beautiful place.
Comment by Patricia Barreto from Armacao dos Buzios, Brazil
HI,Pozos Azules is a good destiny but it is NOT open all the year, before, you need to get information.
Here you can see beautifull pictures of this place.
