yes you sure can. If the weather is good you will find a lot of people skating in the Vondelpark, between Leidseplein and Museumplein.
Bring you shoes with you while skating though, as you will not always be welcome in every store or place to eat with your skates on. Besides that, it is no problem at all (If you don't mind the rain).

You can even join the 'Friday night skate'. This is a skate tour that anyone can join. Every friday the route will be different. It starts at 20:30 in the Vondelpark in front of the Filmmuseum. It can be a great way to see the city and meet locals!

Skating through Amsterdam won't be any problem, as mentioned before. But keep in mind that trafic is chaos in the city center (also when you go by foot). Skating is most safe on the bike lanes which are often painted red. Enjoy!

I'd wish I was yr age but yes, skating or rather, roller blading (if thats the right term/description) is an absolute ease and riot to explore the streets and corners without fear of extra expenses to yr budget. Have fun and you will get to meet more ppl this way for sure. Just keep a good lookout on the canine faeces as you cruise the lanes... woopzzzz!!! ;)

I would not reccommend rollerskating in Amsterdam. The roads are not that good and cars do not expect rollerskaters. So the public transport is better....or just walk if you do not want to ride a bike. Amsterdam is really small. crossing the centre will take about 45 minutes walking..If you do want to skate you v=can do that safely in The Vondelpark or during the fridaynight skate... (every friday evening in summer)

As Arthur clearly recommends, he is absolutely right on that regarding motorists not giving extra attention for skaters esp. when the traffic congestion is unlike HongKong, or BKK where it is always down to a crawling pace. But skating does demand you respect & abide the traffic laws and stopping where required... or you'll be facing fines too as there are lots of foot patrolling by Policemen in Amsterdam and thats good too ;)
but what the heck.... U R a young person... live like you want to live....WOOT!!! I would if I'm back in my late teens...hahaaa!!!

Skating is fine when the weather permits. The flat landscape may not be so ideal for those who like speed but that is nothing an ABEC upgrade can“t handle.

Amsterdam is perfect for skating. It's flat, and you can skate in the bike lanes. Just watch out for tram rails! Also, every friday, there's a friday night skate, which takes you on a guided tour of Amsterdam. It's free to everyone and takes a different route each week, which is closed off by the police.
