And I have good news, Marcone Lima, he is the second in the brazilian rank of the localyters...he also teaches portuguese, I will let you know how to be in touch with him, but I am sure he will write to you from here!
He is one of the best tour guides in Rio I know, he is one of my associates, he is also an english teacher and he is studying medicine to be a nurse!!!

Hi, You didn't say what kind of school you wish to go, but there are many portuguese schools for foreigners, I advice you to go to CCAA school and they are specialize in foreigners students. And for an apartment I advice to go to this hostel, his site www.elmisticopacabana.com, I don't know this place personally, but I have seen passing by every day by bus.. Good luck.

About apartments, its better if you contact a real estate agency here, by internet.
Schools for portuguese, i dont know about, but if you need any help in Rio, i will be glad to help.
