Jeff, I was talking with Rafa and I think he is the best option, you saw his blog and you could read there a lot about his guests and how happy they get after seeing Rio with a very local focus.

I work with him quite a long time and we have done tours together...

You can even find his guests opinion on you tube, the one I really like is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qicrjp0Y_5o

Keep in touch and you will have a great experience in Rio!

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your wonderful responses. I'm sorry for causing all the confusion with the "open-ended" train question and I just finally figured out how Localyte's user interface. I will some time to think over my trip priority, interests and time schedule. Until I get that sorted out, I will only be able resume my tour planning.

Thank again so much for all of your time and patience! You guys are more personable and dedicated than the commercial tour companies.

Kind Regards,

Jeff

Tour companies are not so personal, they are too much attachted to schedules and some of them are much more concerned about the commisions they can get then pleasing their costumers!

Business are business I know, but you can really combine some kindness, friendship and fun with your work!

It always bring more visitors to the city when people are really welcome!

Really thing about the best solutions for your trip but think about how complete and genuine would be getting to know Rio by the eyes of a local.

Be prepared to get the best of Brazil!!!

Hello Jeffrey!
The only "Train ride " we have in Rio is the cog-wheel train that takes you to the top of the Corcovado Mountain, in the Tijuca Forest National Park, where the statue of Christ the Redeemer is. Due to the heavy rains we had in Rio a month ago, several landslides have impacted the access to the park and have heavily impacted the railroad. So, right now, there is no announced date for the return of normal activities, so the only access to the Christ right now is by jeep or van. I am not available this day but let me suggest my friend Havelock "Jimmy" Campbell who can take good care of you in Rio. As for paragliding, besides Niteroi you have São Conrado, which is closer and also has a spectacular view. Jimmy can also take care of that for you. If you come any other time, I'd be glad to tour you around! Welcome to Rio and have fun around here!

Hi Dear Jeffrey,

Train toura are only available on the way up to Corcovado where the statue of Christ is. And it takes about 20 all the way up the mountain. Unfortunately at the moment, the railway is under repair due to the recent troubles the city had with the amount of rain but maybe by May 16th it is back to normal, please check some days before. The páragiding in Niteroi is around Usd 110.00 and you should not miss the Hangiding or Paragiding from the beach of sao Conrado where the view is great and the price is around Usd 125.00.

Cheers!!

Hi, Jeff;
Yeah, we all wonder what 'train tour' you might be referring to.
My tours comprise my services (see: www.aybloc.com/feedback.htm for comments) and transportation (NOT the ascents to either Corcovado nor Sugar Loaf), and are rated by the hour, so that you yourself can choose what you want to do, how, and when.
As you were told by others here, the ascent to the Christ Redeemer monument is somewhat precarious, to say the least, due to the catastrophes of past month.
Please go to my website aybloc.com, see the fare for the tours I offer, and don't hesitate to give me a hard time bargaining.
Hugs;
Jim

Hello everyone,

Thanks for being so nice and sorry for the "confusing" question. Actually, localyte does not allow me to write alot and I just found out "Train Tours in Copacabana" does not exist. I saw a localyte member's posting that listed a "Train Tours in Copacabana" might include Buzios, Petropolis, Tetropolis and Niteroi tours in a day. After some deep-thinking, I don't think its a very comfortable to be traveling very far places in a day.

If I have more questions, I'll make sure to accurately describe the issue on the localyte website.

Thank again so much for all of your time and patience!

In order to avoid "public snare-ups" (chuckles), you'd be most welcome to contact me directly, via Skype: "aybloc"; by e-mail: hjc@aybloc.com; or by phone +55 21 4101.6304 or +55 21 8163.9044.
P.s.: I'm a former Canadian by the way. P. E. Trudeau took my citizenry from me. Now I'm a Scot with a British passport, but a Brazilian, a 'carioca', at heart.
