It depends on the hotel rating you are looking for - there are 2 high rated hotels called - Le suffren and Le Labourdonnais which are both found at the waterfront area in Port Louis - where all the facilities - like shopping, restaurents, cinemas are found. There is one of lesser standard, but (which is still a good one) called le St Georges hotel in the centre of Port Louis. all these hotels are found in the capital city.

from Port louis to G.Bay can take you 30 minutes by car but 1-1.5 hr by bus,in grand bay - a lot of hotels, 2 to 5 stars, suiting your choice, other wise i can also provide you bungalows at pereybere, one of the beautiful beach in Mauritius. Next to G.bay, Mont Choisy also good, peaceful and nice natural beach. My best place is G.Bay and Mont cHOISY.

There are a number of options available to you but please remember that any hotel within a 30 minute drive of Port-Louis, could take an hour and a half in rush hour traffic.

The following link shows a map of Mauritius with a large number of hotels and their star rating. I would suggest that out of rush hour, any hotel north of Port-Louis could be reached within 30 minutes, as could any hotel in Flic en Flac (just).

Save your offensive language for your kind!!OK!! Yes I have actually stayed there! This is just a realistic and constructive criticism! On what basis would you say that this hotel is the greatest around!! Get your fact straight before you suggest any absurdity to anyone, after all your role on this site is to recommend and help for d best..not d worse! And once again dont you dare use this kind of language again..it does not give a great opinion of your caracter!

Dear Prisca, I understand that you mean to helpin advertising the hotel but being rude is not the solution. I do agree with Mathew and the other guy. I visited it once but it is not an attractive hotel you have even better accommodation. The rooms are small and the corridor sting. I would recommend Le Suffren or even something at Baie du Tombeau. I am an hotelier it is not my taste.

Unless you are looking for a very bad, business hotel, do not stay at the St George. It is not a place I would recommend to anyone. It is handy if you are in Port-Louis on business and even then there are better places to stay.

One website which seems to support my comments:

I would agree with Mathew.. Do NOT stay at the St George hotel, unless Prisca work there herself..why on earth would anyone recommend this hotel! There are a few hotels easily accesible my best 2 would be The Maritim Hotel or the Grand Mauritian, they are not far from Port Louis and are both of great Standard, althouh Both Labourdonnais and Le Suffren that are right on the waterfront are very nice hotels, they are both Business Hotels and also there are no Beaches..

Hello there, try the Banyans which is located in the north of the Island, about 25 minutes from Port Louis. It's also not to far from Grand Baie where you can go shopping/restaurants/clubbing. check www.villa-banyan.com

My wife and I stayed at Coralia for a week during April - excellent value for a three star hotel - we'll be going back next year.
